The Joeys are the babies of Legend Acoustics' Kangaroo range, These are the altest incarnation of Dr Crawfords mini speakers and they are fantastic with appropriate amplification. I love them with a Rega Brio R from the idiosyncratic UK company. It goes to show that the best most musical pieces of kit are firmly based on passionate individuals such as Rod Crawford and Roy Gandy.
Do not be deceived by their initially humble but cool form factor appearence.
These tots feel like they are constructed of solid concrete.
There is no ... I mean really none at all ... other speaker of this size and solidity thats not more than double the money in the local market.
With their fast, open natural sound – and are still designed & built in Australia. Within their band-width of 50 Hz to 20 kHz, the Joeys are very faithful to the signal fed to them. Given well-recorded music through high quality front-end electronics, the Joeys will sound simply superb.
Inside, the cabinets have internal surfaces which are non-parallel that, together with Australian wool batts, minimize internal standing waves that muddle sound. And a knuckle-rap test will quickly show they are built like Hitler's bunkhouse to eliminate cabinet resonances that will also reduce clarity; while their unique stretched Lycra grille produces minimal effect on tonal balance.
The bass/midrange driver is from the same papyrus stable as very expensive Wilson Audio speakers – while the tweeter is a Nextel dome with very large rear chamber for minimum distortion.
Combined with very high quality crossovers (Wima capacitors, air-cored inductors and metal
resistors) they result in the fast, open natural sound of all Legend loudspeakers.
