Building upon the Nova system, the Applause is Morels flagship surround sound package. A two-way satellite system coupled with a compact, powerful subwoofer produces a rich room filling sound. Morel design and build their own drivers in house, and have provided OEM drivers for many award winning loudspeakers. With the introduction of the Applause, Morel have designed their own surround system, finally proving that a satellite system can do more than disappear, it can sound wonderful too.
“The SoundSpot™ SA-2 is a true two-way system, the 100 mm (4") mid/bass unit and a soft-dome tweeter are each housed in their own acoustical chamber - a perfectly shaped steel dome, which minimizes sonic coloration and eliminates music-distorting resonance.
Both drivers utilize Morel's External Voice Coil (EVC) design, in which an Aluminum Hexatech™ Coil surrounds an extremely powerful magnet system. The larger than usual voice coil supports the cone, preventing flexing and buckling which result in a smudged and muddied sound. As a result, a shallow cone can be used, allowing better dispersion of the sound over a wider listening area.
For the mid/bass unit, Morel's proprietary Hybrid Motor was chosen. This powerful combination of Neodymium and Ferrite magnets is up to six times smaller than a conventional magnet achieving the same flux! This leaves more room within the enclosure for the bass notes to build up, in contrast to conventional satellite speakers where the bulk of the volume is taken up by the magnet system. The Hybrid Motor is rear vented to allow acoustic loading of the enclosure volume, and to create strong air circulation that cools the voice coil for higher power handling. The cone is DPC (Damped Polymer Composite), surround and center cap made of one single piece to reduce distortions at high power levels.
The tweeter is soft dome, hand coated with Acuflex™ preventing resonance and reducing distortion. The dome is supported by a 28 mm (11/8") liquid cooled voice coil. As a consequence of the large voice coil diameter, the tweeter's frequency range is extended down to the mid-range band. These unique characteristics allow the use of a simple, first order crossover (only two components!) thereby minimizing crossover-induced disturbances and preserving sound clarity and transparency.
The SoundSub™ IS-9A was designed to supplement the SoundSpot™ satellite speakers in the low bass frequency range, Creating an acoustically homogeneous home cinema or hi-fi system. The SoundSub™ IS-9A employs two 222 mm (9") woofers in an extremely flat profiled enclosure. The woofer's rear vented double magnet system and Aluminum Hexatech coil allow for effortless deep bass power. The IS-9A uses the Tandem Dynamo Acoustics design, which allows perfect acoustical loading of the enclosure and provides strong air circulation for high power handling capabilities. The SoundSub™ IS-9A is an active subwoofer, driven by a high quality 120 W amplifier, positioned at the rear of the enclosure. The amplifier offers automatic on/off switch, volume control, phase control, and crossover point control that allow seamless system integration. The IS-9A has high and low level inputs/outputs that allow for any of the common configuration options. The SoundSub™ IS-9A will enhance any home theater system with a well controlled, deep bass.”
