Rega Elicit, new big boy amplifier ... $3699.00
|
This is the 21st Century recreate of the original NAD 3020 that provided outlet for thousands of young people on the hunt for real HiFi.
When I was purveying audio in Cambridge in 1979 the NAD 3020 was a sudden revolutionary product that empowered a whole generation of young HiFi buffs with at last a reliable good quality amplifier that was a massive leap ahead of anything else that was available at the time. |

This is the descendant of the original 3020 amplifier that all the students would blow their grant cheques on in the seventies. Grey and austere but with an unnatural amount of gold plate on input terminals and lots of good quality electronic components internally. |

We love the Brio. Its simple and it sounds great. A lovely amp with real warmth and detail and its built like a tank. It can handle som really tricky speaker loads and it makes a wonderful building block for a component hifi system. Vinyl freaks take note, the phono stage is exemplary for the price.

This is the classic NAD pure stereo amp that had me reaching for the price list to double check its costings after I opened it, I couldnt believe how much amp for how little money. Designed by Bjorn Eric Edvardsen it has thus atracted the BEE suffix. As ever with an NAD amp there is a proliferation of high quality input sockets including an RS232 and pre out / main in. It's a really sweet amp with terrific bass control and that particular NAD character of midrange spatial rendition. |

Our initial impressions are very positive. |

This sweet little japanese girl with a good grip of an amp is close to classique retro but an intrinsically solid buy. An updated version of the PMA 700 with a more deliberate dose of Jap stereo cred. |

Arcams entry point amp is a real cracker. There is great grip and control, plenty of detail and enough slam to keep the bass pigs happy. Its also solidly put together and come with a handy remote. Pair it up with a slim floorstander or a high quality bookshelf and you'll have the makings of a great system. |

We really like the new Creek EVO range. The amp and CD represent ridiculous performance levels for their price point. Well built. Great sound. Cool looks (well, at least in the black finish). If you want serious HiFi but are on a budget of just over $1k for an amp or CD player, the EVO range fits the bill. |

This little wooden clad amplifier is quite thoroughly retro in a number of ways ... it is clad in a wooden vest that rather delightfully rounds off and overlays a 21st century alloy frontage tastefully laden with relayed and led'd touch switches. |

Cambridge is not usually seen in the part of price-town, but here they are with the 840A. Sporting an absolutely massive torodial power supply (along with a second seperate supply for the preamp stage!), the 840A has power on tap. It delivers a lightning fast performace, bursting with dynamics and plenty of foot tapping verve. |

Here is what Adam Smith of "Hi Fi World" say about the sound quality of the PM8003 in March 2009 - the new integrated amplifier from Marantz.
"I was both surprised and delighted by the way in which the PM8003 made music come to life. It has a quite uncanny soundstage depth that hangs performances back behind the loudspeakers in a goodly amount of space, to offer surprising atmospherics. Central vocals were vivid and locked firmly between the loudspeakers, with the PM8003s filling the space between them with finely etched musicality. Marantz designs have traditionally tended to offer a sweet and engaging top end performance, and the PM8003 was no exception. Cymbal strikes proved lifelike and well balanced, hihats crisply etched and the higher frequency elements of an orchestra rang around my room in a highly satisfying manner. The PM8003 offers plenty of top end detail but never once strayed from being composed, smooth and almost liquid in its treble performance. Switching across musical genres, the Marantz proved largely uncritical of what it was fed. Soft acoustic material was lushly enveloping, with female vocalists offering beautifully judged phrasing. Classical encores rang out strongly and yet dropped to a subtle whisper when required, and a spot of rollicking jazz skipped along merrily. The PM8003 proved to be most adept at layering performances so that the main attraction captured the attention, and the supporting cast were suitably arranged around this. Heading for the heavier end of the musical spectrum, the Marantz showed itself to be a solid performer." |

This is the reincarnation of the original Class A griddle ... that sweet sounding mellifluos integrated amplifier whose whole body was a heat sink and that charmed a whole generation of audiophiles. |

Here's a nice bit of kit. It's a stonking great sounding amp in Cyrus' trade mark cast magnesium alloy chassis that cleverly keeps everything in a little half sized box. The 6 series has been upgraded with the XP preamp stage and all the other nice little features that comes with that. Have a go on it. It's great! |

There's obviously something good happening in Wales, as Leema Acoustics has unleashed another excellent amplifier in the form of the Pulse. Living up to the high standard set by its bigger brother the superb Tucana, the Pulse is a tour de force in amplification. With more than enough power to tackle demanding speaker loads and a cool volume display, the Pulse is becoming a dem favourite in the stereo sound lounge. Pop in for a play. |

Quirky, interesting, original and just a little British. We really dig the new Creek Destiny series of electronics. You'll be amazed by the liquid presentation of the integrated amp. A perfect match the Epos range of speakers (although they work a treat on pair of Dyn's too). If you're looking for something a little different, your time has come. |

Rega has stuck with its unitary chassis design for its highly respected components for some years now. Any body who has been into our store and has asked what we think is the best $1000 Amp or $1700 Cd player will have had a Rega Brio and a Rega Apollo presented to them. |

An exceptionally high quality, half sized HiFi amp with a multi purpose DAC built in? Doesn't that just sound amazingly attractive. Any one who's been into our store and had a chat with us about stereo will know that we love our Cyrus gear. Almost every one on staff has something from Cyrus at home. The New XP series is showing why we regard these little black (or silver) boxes so highly. |

Sharp looks and smooth curves, This Marantz is built to impress. Big bold looks are matched with a big bold sound, taking the 'iron fist in a velvet glove approach'. Subtle and intricate details are backed with power reserves capable of delivering huge dynamics. The on board phono stage is top notch too, so Vinyl Freaks take note. |

We're a little late in getting the Leema Acoustics Tucana Amp into our listings. We may well have been a little too preoccupied listening to it...
It's one of those sublimely impressive bits of equipment that far outstrips the expected performance. Firing it up with power hungry Dynaudio or PMC speakers and it conquers them and reigns them in with superb control and detail not usually seen this side of 5 figure power amps. |

It looks a little plain at first glance, but the quality of Rega's new flagship amplifier is astounding. Trying to pick it up, you'd swear they have taken every previous amp model they have ever made and compressed one of each inside the Osiris. |

Denon is in every sense a true High Fidelity manufacturer. It’s just that its focus of late has been on the home theatre side of things. From the aerospace inspired looking AVCA1XV multi-channel AV receiver ($15k) to the silly money first of its kind DVDA1XV 1080P up-scaling DVD player ($7k), Denon have been making some serious high-end kit. |
