Bookshelf
Good things often come in small packages! Bookshelf speakers (which are best placed on stands by the way) are perfect for smaller rooms or for use in places where larger speakers may have to much visual impact. Don’t let their size fool you though, these are very capable speakers suitable for both music and movie applications. This is actually one of our favourite categories of loudspeaker, afact demonstrated by the very diverse inventory which you will see as you walk through our "corridoor of death" in the front sales area of 164 Lygon St. At any one time we will generally have a range of bookshelf speakers from $300 to $15000 in stock for demonstration.
Floorstanders
From slim and elegant to towering behemoths this category features larger speakers that work best in mid to large rooms. They pack more punch than their smaller siblings, and are the perfect choice when space and aesthetic consideration allow. These remain the speaker type of choice and aspiration for middle Australia ... the classic formula being a home theatre system with a set of floorstanding fronts, matched rears, centre, and subwoofer.
For a speaker that combines efficency with bass depth and application versatility a well made floor stander is a graet all rounder.
Subwoofers
Subwoofers are used to add bass to a system – and not just for movies – the right sub can add extra impact and realism to music as well. Quality subwoofers are not just one note devices but offer perceptible octave differentiation down to frequencies that are felt rather heard.
Surround
For a good home theatre your surround speakers should be more than just an afterthought. We have a range that will work in any home theatre and they offer timbre matching with our other procucts of course. we are particularly proud of some of our better dipole type procts that are in may ways the theoretical optimum for home theatre application. This type of surround speaker will remove the immediate directionality from the rear surround channel and encourage that sought after sensation of envelopment and immersion in the soundtrack.
Lifestyle
These speakers are the answer for people who want great sound but don’t want to clutter up a room with traditional box speakers. Includes both speakers you don’t see and speakers you’ll want to show off!

John Atkinson, one of my favourite Hifi Reviewers who writes for Stereophile and a number of other publications has this rather informative article posted on the Stereophile website:
