The ATS-4 typifies Hume L'Estrange's approach to loudspeakers. It uses his patented "low Q alignment" low frequency technology in a three way four element design that manages to combine exceptional sensitivity (93Db) with an excellent frequency response and ease of drive characteristics.

Some of us love big speakers here at CAV. Great hulking monoliths (dual-liths?) that thump out sound like some sort of gift from the thunder gods of audio. Unfortunately, that means that space is a bit of a problem in our already bountiful show rooms. So getting a new range of speakers in is quite the commitment, they truly do have to be worth both their floor space and to have a definitive new market place position and sonic character positioning, never mind getting past the gauntlet of our staff’s opinions. We greatly value existing relationships and never lightly unseat a brand from our floor stock inventory to make space for a flashy newcomer. At CAV we have no time for pretty strangers but look for the long term attributes in our brand relations.

The Contour S 3.4 cabinet is strengthened by cross-braces in specific areas to achieve an absolutely solid construction. Internally, the MDF walls are damped with an extremely dense material that absorbs even the smallest resonance. In conjunction with the advanced baffle construction, an extremely stiff and rigid unit is created, further ennobled by the finely polished surface of a beautifully finished real wood veneer.

Where does Dr Rod get these names from? I think he's in communion with some ancestors down there in Tasmania ... the new Legend Tikandi is the development of the Big Red and they are now rather proudly available for audition in fully active form at Carlton Audio Visual.Actually the name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning "live".

The S3 Avantgarde's use an AMT tweeter that is highly desirable, this is a ribbon based design with the low mass and transient advantages of that ilk, in this format it is reffered to as an Air Motion Transformer as used by ESS of old and used today by our man Brett as an add on to his custom Legends.

Hi Fi choice have carried out the first review of the Platinum PL300's in December 2007 edition; interestingly for much of the test they were running them on the same Denon Amp and CD player that we have been using in the store.

After several years of intensive research and development a new Confidence Series has been created. Every detail of the construction is the direct result of innovative development of Dynaudio technologies whose functional requirements were integrated into a clear-cut aesthetic concept. The design elements and details incorporated into the new Confidence models have a clear functional background, having effectively been converted aesthetically by our team of Danish engineers and designers. In the Confidence models, Dynaudio employs a completely new cabinet baffle approach; the front, crafted of special resonance-damping 40mm high-density fiberboard, was constructed as an independent element and as such it is optimized for the physical and sonic requirements of the drivers. It is firmly attached with a highly dampening wood panel to the cabinet. The shape of the baffle is moulded with precise lines and an exactly calculated radius, avoiding reflections and achieving a perfectly balanced transmission over the entire frequency range.

Statuesque in sound and design, exquisitely finished with Steinway piano gloss finish and extrememly high-quality real wood timber veneer - the C4s are our flagship speaker in every way. Hearing these speakers in full flight - you really have to re-evaluate your definition of the word 'dynamic' - there is nothing like hearing such well integrated, visceral, textured bass from a speaker like this. Imaging is crystalline with a three dimensionality that is just very, very special. A must listen - even for the curious.

It takes a very special product to get our jaded staff excited, but these speakers are just that.
