    The death of CD?

The Slim Devices Transporter -- $3,195rrp

OK so storing your music on your computer is convenient and great way to sync with your portable player, but it isn’t really Hi Fi is it? Well with the Slim Devices Transporter you can now take the music stored on your computer and play it through your Hi Fi system with true audiophile quality.

There are many excellent devices out there that enable you to stream music from your computer, but what sets the Transporter apart is that it is designed from the ground up for absolute audio quality. Encased in aircraft grade aluminium the Transporter features high end audio DAC’s, balanced analogue outputs, and digital in and out via BNC, SPDIF and AES/EBU. It is also easy to use with its well laid out remote, easy to navigate menu system and two large florescent displays that can be read across the room.

But the most impressive thing is the sound… If you use a good CD ripping program and one of the lossless compression formats, the results are stunning; bags of detail, holographic imaging, sweet open highs and tuneful bass. We put it up against a well regarded $4200 CD player and the Transporter more than held it’s own – it's really that good.

Maybe this is the future of Hi Fi...
