This is the much awaited low frequency transducer to match the GS loudspeakers. Comprising a 600 watt RMS (1200 Peak) Class D switch mode power supply amplifier conjoined to a forward firing long throw (4 inches with triple suspension) 12inch CCAM drive unit in a sealed cabinet constructed of 25mm MDF with critical internal bracing.
It has a very sophisticated set of crossover adjustability options. There is full DSP control with all functions controlled in the digital domain, providing much more advanced tuning of the crossover filter characteristics than with conventional analogue circuitry.
The Low Pass Crossover range to hand is 40Hz - 160 Hz adjustable with variable slope from 6-54dB/Octave. It also offers an adjustable Sub Sonic High Pass filter
It comes with a remote control that lets you set it up perfectely from your seating position with a front mounted IR sensor with an LED to indicate remote actuation. There is a multifunction display on the top that shows the transient input level rather fetchingly along with your settings, it politely switches off after a few moments unattended.
The sub sounds great, set up in one of our reference rooms with a GS60 speaker system it does that trick of unobtrusively filling in that bottom hole of the frequency spectrum in a fashion that is completely unobtrusive ... until you switch it off ... then your perception falls into the sudden gaping hole created by its absence ... I have yet at the time of writing to get to grips with the full measure of this device and its performance but it has already managed to get some extra octaves out of some of my favoured DTS test material in a room that is "difficult" for sub 80 HZ bass. We have not been short of powered low frequency devices to play in this room before, but the GSW12 appears to possess a power over transients that is unique at its price point in my experience.
Another feature of note on this device is that it offers individual control of input sources so that a Surround Receiver LFE input and an alternative input such as a 2 channel stereo amp can share a single GSW12.
There are four pre set EQ settings and one user adjustable EQ setting with a 10 band graphis equaliser built in to provide for fine tuning and room correction.
There is an auto switch on/off or a 12volt trigger input with a user adjustable delay controlled via the DSP from 5-25 minutes.
Dimensions are 390 x 390 x 420 (HxWxD)excluding the grille and the extremely smart adjustable feet that show a suspiciously obssesive attention to detail. Weight is 28 Kg... |
