  • Rega Aethos Amplifier ... purity by design

I've been waiting years for this amplifier. Even before there was a tantilising rumour that Rega had started designing the elusive amp that sits between the Elicit R ($3799) and the Osiris ($13,995), it was a near constant lament from customers - 'but why doesn't Rega make an amp at the $5K - $7K range. I love the Osiris but it's out of budget and I need something more than the Elicit R'.

Well it has arrived and it is beautiful. A newly designed casing that is solid and industrial but with some sexy curves that form cutouts to reveal the bulky heat sinks underneath.

And how does it sound...well...it grips and it dictates yet its smoothness is alluring. Detail, tightness and extension in the bass is all there but there's also the lusciousness and enveloping blanket of sound that you only get with a Rega.

The Aethos has set a new benchmark at this price point.

  • Rega REFERENCE EBLT Drive Belt

This is the new top spec drive belt from Rega. These reduce WOW or flutter in the rotation of the platter because they are made to an exacting standard with no impurities whatsoever.

These belts now come as standard with the Planar 8 and Planar 10 but are highly recommended with the Planar 3 and Planar 6 especially if you have the Neo TT PSU.

It can be a nice upgrade, however, for any Rega Turntable.

  • Rega Ania Pro MC cartridge

The new Ania Pro Moving Coil cartridge is a variation on Rega's existing Ania cart. The difference being a Vital Profile nude diamond instead of the Eliptical. An Eliptical diamond has a rounded surface that's shaped so it's longer front-to-back than it is side-to-side. It has its advantages but it means that alot of the high frequency and the smaller details are missed from being picked up within the groove.

The Vital Profile has some specifically designed sharper edges that get the diamond further into the groove producing a more nuanced, detailed sound.

It retains all the nice things of the original Ania as well: Neodymium magnets, handwound loss mass coils, aluminium catilever, one-piece rigid body and the CAD designed cover of the internals which is made in red to distinguish it from its little brother.

This is great upgrade that's well worth the money. It's a great upgrade option on a Rega Planar 3 and can come factory fitted to the Planar 6 or 8. It is also a fantastic choice for other brands of Turntable. We do recommend we fit this cartridge to your deck as tracking and alignment become more crucial when the diamond is cut in this way.

Don't fret though, Carlton Audio Visual will fit your Ania Pro free of charge and offer you a tea, coffee or beer while you wait!

  • Rega Aya Speakers

These are an alien shape in a shared showroom of MDF based loudspeakers. They are actually swooping and elegant with their design heart of sound quality worn proudly on their aesthetic sleeve.

Every speaker we open in Carlton Audio Visual has to pass an extreme tactility test. If the speakers were people we would be up for all sorts of workplace harrassment cases.

These Rega Aya devices feel like nothing else. Their encasement is prenaturally cold and solid to the touch, making all other speakers at their price range feel light and warm and vulnerable.

The Rega engineers have put to the side MDF real wood veneers as a material that is cost prohibitive for the sound quality that it produces and gone on a search for the best bang for buck alternative material. They have come up with Glass Reinforced Concrete or GRC as they call it.

This uses real pieces of glass in the construction to make a superbly rigid structure.

The material emulates an organic material with slight imperfections in surface texture and shading. Important not only for aethestic appeal but also acoustic performance.

The aim of this process wasn't to reinvent how Rega speakers sound, rather to find a material that sounds like their old MDF/veneer designs at a fraction of the cost.

In this way, the Aya's sound remarkably...Rega!  A tight refined treble that isn't ever bright and a sound that is more 'forward' than the typical English speaker sound.

  • Rega Elex Mk 4 ... newest version of iconic amplifier

The brand new Rega Elex Mk 4 is here! Boasting the updated aesthetic but also a built-in DAC as well as an upgraded internal circuitry. So much so that Jason Kennedy from the stereo magazine The Ear has declared "Elex Mk4 gives you 95% of what’s on offer from the Elicit Mk5 at a notably lower price, as mentioned earlier the only real difference ... The Rega Elex Mk4 is a hi-fi bargain, of that there can be no doubt."

The DAC circuitry is based on what was a personal favourite of mine, the now discontinued DAC-R. I'm glad to see that the DAC-R is seeing a revival in the new Elex Mk 4. Two superb performers in the one box....Hoorah!

  • Rega Apheta 3 cartridge

This is Rega's new version of the acclaimed Apheta Moving Coil Cartridge and it builds on Rega's decades long obsession with perfecting the Moving Coil cart.

Like its predecessor, it utilises micro-mass generation systems with super strong yet jointless bodies to minimise resonance transferance. It also uses a super high powered rare earth metal neodymium for its magnets. These were all upgrades that set the Apheta 2 apart and elevated the sophisticstion, separation and musicality from the original Apheta.

Now Rega has taken another look at the Apheta and has introduced the same 'fine line' diamond technique that's been on the reference Aphelion on to the Apheta. This technique involves pushing the actual cut diamond through the counterlever at a perfect 90 degrees.

This is capable of getting even more detail out of the groove of you Vinyl and means an even better listening experience.

  • Rega Planar 1 Walnut ... forty years late

Rega's much loved entry level turntable now comes in a swanky wood finish.

This is simply the best budget turntable ... ever ... and they have made it look and feel so good.

The unique factory that builds these by hand in England has never advertised and never borrowed money. They are a law unto themselves and have only one aim which is simply to allow people to have the best music in their homes for the least money and the longest time.

Constructionally this is a device of extreme simplicity but exacting tolerances and critical use of materials. Roy Gandy (the founder and where the company name comes from) is all about building sensitive vibration measurement machines.

I used to play a game with millenials when I would show them the platter of the earlier model RP1 and say that if they could tell me what it was made of that I would give them the record player for free. I don't do it anymore ...

The platter is actually made of bakealite and is all part of the Mr Gandy's principle of building the turntable as a vibration sensing instrument. Most people associate it with Radios and Telephones from the thirties and forties, it is uniquely appropriate in this engineering context and is a far better solution than the cheap alloy and MDF normally used as the platter material iin budget turntables.

  • Rega Saturn Mk 3

This is the new version of a very dear favourite. A richness to the sound that does away with the brittleness and edge normally associated with the sound of cds. This CD player is the most 'vinyl' sounding CD player I've ever heard.

The new unit has some updated aesthetics but keeps the same internals as the older Saturn R.

We are expecting stock of the Saturn Mk3 in July.
