  • Sony VPL-VW570ES Native 4K projector..

This is the step above Sony's entry level projector and although it doesn't look like it from the box and the casing, this is a big step up from the VPL-VW270ES.

There are a couple of technical differences that make this projector outperform its sibling:

Dynamic Iris - this automatically adjusts the aperture on the lens depending on whether the picture is darker or lighter in colour. When there's a really bright outdoor type scene on the screen, it'll open out the aperture and let the full glory of the projector shine but when it's a darker scene like a night scene or darker indoor setting, the aperture will close so the blacks will be more defined and show more detail. This means this projector has a significantly wider colour constrast (35000:1!!) and looks much better throughout the whole colour gamut.

More Brightness - they've gone with a better lamp 280W in this projector, that throws 1800 lumens, 300 more than the VPL-VW270ES. And that's important because more lumens and light means a picture that sparkles and can reproduce colours better AND can throw bigger images if you'd like to up your screen size.

As comes standard with Sony projectors, this is a Native 4K image devoid of any 'fake it til you make it' 4K shakers. All HDMI inputs are HDCP 2.2 capable and there's enough settings and calibration options to keep even the toughest critics happy.

  • Sony VPL-VW870ES

This is quite simply, the best projector we've ever had in the store by a long margin. Essentially it's Sony's $90K projector put in to the slimmer more home/mounting friendly chassis of the VPL VW760. It's priced, however, closer to the 760 which makes it in our minds, a RIPPER.

The picture quality with this projector is transformative. The detail brings out a depth of field that is unrivaled. Images sparkle with an intensity because the colour gamut is so large.

Laser light source will provide circa 20,000 hours of viewing (that equates to around 10 years IF you're playing the projector 6 hours every day).

  • Sony 85 Inch Z9 G Master Series 8K Television

I knew as soon as I saw this Television on display at the Integrate Exhibition in Melbourne in August that I was seeing something that was moving the goalposts in direct view visual reproduction.

This Sony was voted the best product of CES2019, the prestigious US Consumer Electronics Show that is the Mecca for high end visual products.

When we were given the opportunity to be the first store in Victoria to have one on display, I leapt at it.

It arrives in a dauntingly massive box and is not for installation or moving by a casual AV person.

It seems like a throwback when you are given the job of putting it on the wall.

It has the mass of a noughties 60 inch Plasma that has two hefty chaps straining to hold it in place while somebody brave crawls below plugging the cables in before final placement on the bracket. And it seems to be thick like a projection TV form the nineties with suspicious vents above and below that reminds me of a seventies wall heater.

We hooked up some 8K content to the Z9 to show off its resolution, Venice at Carnivale. And Wow! The picture is alluring. The depth of field created by the 8K picture is astounding and the colours and brightness - mesmerizing.

Even our most hard-nosed 'I've seen it all before, nothing is extraordinary AV guys' stood staring at a couple repeats of the video, display clip muttering 'it's so pretty' to themselves. Weeks later and still I have to be very disciplined not to fall into staring at the images on that screen. It has a magnetism to it, that I've never experienced in a TV.

Others feel the same about this TV - read Tony O'Brien's review for StereoNet here.

There have been products outside of consumer land in high end aerospace and vehicular design arenas that are capable of showing full daylight brightness and max contrast and that are used for CAD rendition and were based on laser banks and considered unsafe for consumer application. The surface area of this screen in conjunction with its dynamic brightness (4000 nits peak) and resolution make it a game changer in terms of outright visual power.

  • Sony VPLVW760ES laser projector 4K whiter than white

When we first saw this it was still "Project Vulcan" and it was played at a Sony Pro dealer gathering against the other 4k offerings on the market.

The remarkable thing about its image was how off-white it made all the other projectors look. White rendition is something we tend to take for granted, reviewers always talk about the reds and the colour dynamic and black levels ... however once you see a pure white reproduced effectively you cannot go back.

Frankly this projector makes the other 4k offerings under look like yellow snow ...

Australia is possibly the cheapest place in the world to buy it. US Sell price $25,000, we expected it to sell here for $35,000Aus ... actual Australian Sale price $22,999 ...

Available for demonstration in our 65 Pelham st showroom. This is one of the best Projectors we have ever seen at CAV.
