  • Rega Elex R amplifier ... paragon product

The new Elex Mk 4 is here and we have some new-in-a-box units of the superceded Elex R still. Come and grab one while they last!

The Elex R will be soon replaced by a new model and we are happy to offer the outgoing model at a reduced price to make way for the new.

The Elex R is made in the English Rega factory and is one of the best buys available for a real stereo amp that one would justifiably expect to last a generation or two in a family. In this business we get to make snap product judgments on the way a device feels in our hands when we take it out of the box.

The particular first impression I got from the Elex was a sense of Deja Vu that put me back in the Imperial War Museum and being given a slab of 40mm armour from a Tiger Tank. It is quite remarkably solid and in fact on the hi-fi component inertia scale is possibly the highest scoring item ever ....

  • Audio Research Ref 160M "The best amplifier in the world"

Every now and then one gets the privilege of being in custody of something that is a work of absolute beauty and performance ... having a pair of these on demonstration is the High Fidelity equivalent of a violinist being rendered with a Stradivarius by a patron.

Putting them into the Sonus faber Aida 2 system immediately bought the musicians into the room ... I have a particular opera recording that was sold in by Hartleys in Melbourne in 1957 that I procured in a lost corner of a curio store from a deceased estate. Playing this with these amplifiers Puccini and la Boheme were born again in the space ... time travel is a reality with a system like this ... yes we cried a little.

  • Spendor Classic 200 Speakers

I fell in love with these as soon as I saw them at the Munich Hi Fi Snow and was unfortunately caught by the Australian distributor in a compromising position with them in the rather dark room ...

This is the largest loudspeaker Spendor have ever produced. Employing 2 of their famous 12" bass units as used in the SP100 in each enclosure allowing incredible effortlessness in the bass. If size isn't an issue I would be ordering a pair of these and spending the rest of your life enjoying music knowing you will not find an easier, bigger sounding loudspeaker anywhere.

"Hi Fi News" loves the Classic 200

  • Sonus Faber Lumina III

The Italian speaker manufacturer, Sonus Faber, are renowned for making highend speakers like the imposing Aida II. Bespoke, beautiful and made with incredible attention to detail.

Lumina III however forms part of their new Entry Level offerings. Sonus Faber have had the Venere and the Principia Entry Level ranges in the past but notably, all of those speakers were made in a Chinese factory. The Lumina are made in their Italian factory next to their Highend siblings and straight out of the box they look more like the Olympica Nova or the Reference range than the Principia or Venere. The lovely front baffle looks like a thin version of their multilayered wood design used on the higher models and the leather wrap on the rest of the cabinet, is a nice touch for those of us who love their leather!

They also have a the same Damped Apex Tweeter used on the Sonetto range which really gives these speakers "The Voice of Sonus Faber' more than any of the previous Entry Level iterations.

And that Voice is rich and full. Of course, not as detailed as precise or refined as the more expensive models but they sound and look quintessentially Sonus Faber.

All of this comes in a neat Living Room friendly package as well. That's super slim and compact.

For this reason and their competitive price point, they're a winner!

  • Sonus Faber, Lumina II

The bigger bookshelf design in the Sonus Faber Lumina range. Retaining the 'voice of Sonus Faber' with their Damped Apex Dome tweeter that you'll find on all of the Sonus Faber current range. The Lumina is Sonus Faber's entry level speakers that unlike previous entry level ranges from the Italian brand, they are made directly alongside their more expensive counterparts in the Italian manufacturing facility outside of Vincenza.

Because of this, the sound is rich and warm yet precise where you'd expect as well.

Some clever design atributes, mean these Lumina speakers are perfectly designed to sit right up against walls or actually in Bookcases. Would you believe it, but most 'bookshelf' speakers are not designed to perform well placed into a bookcase. That's because their rear firing bass port will produce a soundwave reflection off a back wall or surface when placed too close to it. As a listener, you'll hear that reflection as distortion. With a front firing speaker, this eliminates this effect and beautiful music can still be heard when speakers are placed onto bookshelves.

The speakers also have a quality finish and styling. A real leather wrap and wooden finishes on the front baffle with lovely inlay details.

Superb Italian design and manufacturing in a compact package to suit the most discerning of buyers.

  • Sonus Faber, Lumina V,

As the reference and the three way floorstander of the SOnus Faber Lumina range, the Lumina Vs have a deeper more commanding sound than the others in the Lumina series.

The same Dampened Apex Tweeter provides the Sonus faber singing quality in the treble that doesn't sound harsh or brittle. The natural fibres in the mid and bass drivers are a light and accurate material and another typically Sonus Faber feature that you see from their $200,000 speakers right down to their $1595 speakers.

The Lumina's are finished in a real leather wrap and a wooden front with inlay details that feels and looks super classy. Italian style combined with the highest calibre engineering and HiFi prowess will make a striking addition to any lounge room.

  • Sonus Faber Amati G5 ... Italian floorstanding loudspeaker supremos

This fifth generation iteration of the Amati Homage loudspeaker is now on demonstration at Carlton Audio Visual. They are named after the 16th Italian luthier, Andrea Amati, who was the first in a long lineage of celebrated Cremonese violin makers including Antonio Stradivari.

Like the best violins of that era, the sound of an Amati speaker has always been rich, vibrant and brilliant yet can deliver details at an almost imperceptible whisper changing between the two effortlessly.

It is so hard for a speaker to recreate the sound of a Violin accurately. Vibrato and the lower harmonics in the sound can so easily be lost leaving a glassy sound to the treble and losing the soul of the music. As a professional string player, I still feel that Sonus Faber Reference and Homage series do this better than any other loudspeaker I've heard (I have heard many loudspeakers!)

One of my reference CDs is Richard Tognetti playing the Bach solo partitas on a 1743 Guarneri violin and yes that's another Cremonese Violin maker. On these speakers, suddenly you can tell he's playing one of the best instruments in the world.

It is possible that these are the most long term listenable of any high end loudspeaker. The vision of Sonus faber is to deliver the music but to avoid that analytical coldness that so many of the highly revealing ultra high end transducer brands are designed with in order to make a quick sale in a competitive demonstration situation. With the Homage series on the other hand it is possible to have a long term musical relationship with the loudspeaker where the romance dosn't fade ....

  • Sonus Faber Sonetto V

Do you like leather? We do and evidently Sonus Faber does as well!

That's one reason why people love Sonus Faber speakers. Leather trim on top of a swanky curved wood veneer. The other is that they sound so good! Rich and warm, never harsh. Big and enveloping, the sound feels like it washes over you and fills every corner of the room. And don't worry, the don't lack for detail and clarity either.

  • Sonus Faber Sonetto III

The smallest floor-standing loudspeaker, surprisingly powerful.

Sonus faber always found its inspiration in the highest Italian culture. This time we entrusted the history of our Literature for representing the new Sonetto Collection.
The Sonetto (Sonnet) is the most ancient Italian Poetic structure. Originally it meant ``Sound, Melody``and was traditionally used to accompany music performances. The first step in the Sonus faber world brings the name of the foundations of Literature history in Italy and in the rest of the world.

  • Sonus Faber Sonetto II

This is one of those darling transducers that looks so good and sounds so good that it can melt the hardened heart of the most dedicated of interior designers and turn them into music loving Hi Fi freaks.

In comparison to Sonetto I, this is a bigger 2-way shelf loudspeaker system. Its high performance features a larger mid-woofer, which is capable of ensuring more wider downwards frequency response and a greater emotional impact. Besides its dimensions, Sonetto II still has the capability to disappear in the environment, with an elegant and graceful style.

  • Sonus faber Omnia ... Italian wireless speaker streamer

This is so pretty, a lustrous combination of wood with LED inlay and is a very sweet sound. It has already received a number of awards for its grace of design.

Unkindly described as a very elegant chopping board by one of my colleagues, the Omnia is actually a very clever piece of audio design that is to compete with the Devialet Phantom/Naim Muso type product. The Devialet and the Naim are actually really tough competition but on looks alone this one is a winner.

Olympica Nova is the second generation of the iconic family of 2013, improved in its form and substance, imbued with the timeless values that inspired us in creating the original line.
