Krix although it's very well known in cinema circles overseas is surprisingly underappreciated in its home Australian market. In 40 years, what started as a band of brothers making stereo speakers in an Adelaide garage has turned into one of the biggest players for speakers in the international commercial cinema market. Krix has adapted the 'speakers behind the screen' approach found in commercial theatres for the home with their MX series. Three speakers; Left, right and centre and two subwoofers either side of the centre make up the array. With the larger MX20 and MX30 systems, you really do need to build them in behind a screen. The beauty of the little MX5 system is that it can feasibly sit around a screen on the floor avoiding a costly rebuild of your whole wall and a new Acoutically Transparent Screen.

And even though it's little, boy does the MX5 deliver. Big dynamics, big room pressurisation and high impact. All with that warmth and depth of sound that never has you reaching to turn the volume down.

We have a set of these new Legend Acoustic speakers on our shelves. Designed and manufactured in Australia by Rod Crawford, former head speaker designer for Linn Acoustics. Like all of Rod speakers, they emphasise clarity and purity of musical reproduction. This is a passive Soundbar that doesn't have an amplifier on board. Krix have deliberately chosen this design because of the sound advantages in a passive design. We see this projector as the perfect unit for an avid gamer. Of course, it's a fabulous looking Home Theatre Projector as well and will double up nicely playing films. But it really stands out from the crowd when it comes to gaming.

This is because it has 240Hz refresh rate which is double the current industry standard of 120Hz and most TVs will still only do 60Hz. This means everything gaming is fluid and more precise. Split second changes are caught with this incredible refresh rate.

It also has a USB-C input - very uncommon on Home Theatre machines - designed specifically to plug the Nintendo Swithch straight into the back of it. On that, we would suggest plugging your gaming hardware into the back of this unit and bypassing any AV receiver that might be in the system in order to get the most out of the ultra fast inputs and refresh rates.

Of course, you can take an audio out to the amp to get your audiophile sound.

The Gravis II Subwoofer is a gorgeous looking subwoofer that also has some very cool features including high level input making it ideal for a consistent and musical performance, a class AB amplifier for a smooth yet punchy sound and a 10" passive driver to give extra extension in the bass.

This unit goes lower than its baby brother, the Gravis I and more than doubles the power handling of the amplifier meaning a faster driver response and more detail!

The brand new Acoustic Energy Coriniums are now on demonstration at Carlton Audio Visual

Acoustic Energy was founded in 1987 and its ethos has always been about bringing high-end sound to an affordable level. The Corinium, however, is taking this further. This time Acoustic Energy has developed its own high-end loudspeaker.

Acoustic Energy has always been clear on what its sound is. For each new speaker design, Acoustic Energy have their team listening and referencing their old speakers to match the sound and then go in with acute measuring devices to verify what they're hearing.

The goal was to continue the hallmark Acoustic Energy sound yet add another two levels of performance on their current reference speakers. 

This meant an excruciating years long process to find the perfect driver materials that would exactly match their criteria. 

The bass drivers are Carbon like the 500 series but don't let this fool you, they have been redesigned behind those cones so that they are faster and less coloured than their little brothers.

The tweeter has been completely redesigned. Now using a Tetoron driver which holds its shape under extreme excursion but also has the signature Acoustic Energy warmth and engagement.

The last interesting piece of this design I'll mention, although there are many that you can read about here, is the front baffle design. It is made of two materials: mdf housing the bass and mid drivers and an aluminium front baffle which holds the tweeter isolating the tweeter from any unwanted infractions from the mid and bass.

All in all, the Coriniums are a beautiful and thoughtfully made set of speakers. Still not extravagantly expensive...although this is all relative of course.

The Gravis I Subwoofer is a petite unit with a gorgeous wood or polished finish.

It features a high level input and a beefer class AB amplifier like the REL subwoofers which makes it very versatile with music and home theatre listening.

But its small, single 8" driver may leave some hankering for more bass. If that's the case there is the Gravis II or even the III, V and VI!

The Maxima Amator is a stupefying synergy of solid wood and marble impossibly crafted into an exquisite sculpture.

This was a project long considered by Sonus faber, a floorstanding two-way made from a solid wood enclosure only made possible through modern CNC technology–all affixed to a one-of-a-kind Italian marble bass.

The original Electa Amator was one of the foundation models for Sonus faber that set the seductive timbre and musicaity allied to unique cabinetry artisanship that is very much the signature of this brand.

The Electa Amator III is immensly tactile with its combination of wood marble and leather, In my mind it feels like one of those precious pieces of preserved Roman art that is found in the corridoors of The Louvre rather than a mere loudspeaker.

These speakers do not come with the stands. Their matching stands which have a base of Carrara Marble can be purchased separately for $2995.

The LCD-24 was a special creation from the designers at Audeze and a 'pet project' of the Chief Technology Officer. These headphones use their ultra light, ultra definition Fluxor planar magnetic drivers with Nano scale diaphragms.

A really interesting box design with a gently curved front baffle and an unusual 360 degree bass port system. The F500 is from the Tannoy school of design with a characteristic dual concentric point source driver that combines bass and treble for better stereo imagery.
