These are the same size as the standard steel SM5 isolation devices but they are built from titanium.  Can the change of materials make a difference?  Absolutely: the titanium Silent Mount SM5s are identical in size to the stainless steel SM5s but are considerable lighter. The reduced weight improves energy transfer and this is why the titanium version produces a better performance.  Timing, dynamics and coherence are all improved and the image is more solid with instruments and voices well defined and accurately placed within the soundstage.

The titanium SM5s are designed to be used with any high performance rack or table.

We use them underneath an Audiophile Star Base rack in our demonstration room and we have also used them with turntable supports, where the improvements to sound quality are particularly striking. Like many upgrades it very easy to quickly get used to the big improvements that the titanium SM5s make.  Taking them out of the system is genuinely surprising and leaves you in no doubt as to how much of a contribution they are making.

All Silent Mounts are supplied with a set of self adhesive thin felt pads. If the rack is sited on anything other than a carpeted floor, the felt pads should be fitted to the base of each Silent Mount. The felt pad has been specifically chosen to minimise any vibration between the Silent Mount and the floor and will ensure that you get the best performance. If the silent Mount is being used on a carpeted floor the Felt pads should not be fitted.

Each Silent Mount SMF5 titanium isolation mount will support up to 50 Kilos in weight.

Amina are the original truly invisible speaker. The company that devoloped the very clever Vibrational Panel Technology or VPT which does away with a traditional cone type of speaker design altogether. Like the wooden panels on an acoustic instrument vibrate microscopically to produce sound, the amina speakers induce a panel to vibrate producing the frequency range of a full range floorstander.

Apart from being very light and being able to hide behind any surface, completely uninhibited, this unique technology actually has the advantage of sounding better in many ways! It's truly non directional. So wherever you stand in the room, it will sound the same. This is not the case with cone drivers and speaker manufacturers will try their hardest with engineering gymnastics (Eg. waveguides) to improve off axis performance but that fact of the matter is a cone driver will always be directional.

The detail and precision of the sound is also extraordinary and that's because of these microscopic movements needed to create the vibrations and the small amount of energy that's required to do that, 1W to produce 90dB @ 1M. That is unheard of with ANY conventional speaker design.

This extreme efficiency also means that the sound is full and dynamic, a true immersive sound.

There are other 'Invisible' speakers out there in the market but none that actually have VPT as it's patented by Amina. This means that they are heavier and create more substantial vibrations which will overtime detrimentally affect the structure of your plaster and your home.

Mobius series panels are designed to be completely plastered overed or covered by wood, leather even high pressure laminate. They are more flexible in their application than the Edge Series of Amina speakers but designed around the same principles.

There is damage to these speakers, hence the price. Take a look at the pictures of the units in the images. It is only superficial damage and does not affect the sound quality at all.

On the face of it, the new Contour range from Dynaudio looks very similar to the old range and in alot of ways they are. But why wouldn't they want to be? The Contour range has been extraordinarily popular and a hallmark of craftsmanship and musicality.

This is the amplifier to buy that is actually a lot better than  "if you need something to get you by" or "you're just starting out"" with a system. It's $399 so it is hard to go wrong but don't mistake it as just being a cheap  device by any means.

This is a speaker that sounds well and truly above its price point.

These are a simple but beautifully thought out and designed set of speakers. I spoke to their Heinz Lichtenegger, the head of Pro-Ject about them, and he passionately described the design ethos behind them as the crusade to get good stereo sound to the masses.

Even more than the high end gear, Heinz seems particularly invested in getting good 'mecahnical' rather than electronic sound to the broader population countering the mono trend for little bluetooth speakers. A turntable and and well placed set of Speaker Boxes bring a much richer experience to the listener.

He went on to explain that he asked his architect about what shape he should choose for a new set of speakers and was met with 'there's everything right abut the box shape of a set of speakers, why change it?'. The box serves a function and is an instantly recognisable form. There is no need to redesign the envelope if it works just fine. 

What the architect said though is keeping the form the same doesn't mean you can't look at the details that make a good thing great. Like kitchen bench tops and other furniture in the house, our interactions with things are based on the haptic touch of a product. We're more likely to go up, touch, use and appreciate something if it has round edges and feels nice! That's why the effort was put in to make the smooth edges on the speakers and the satin feel of the finish.  

And more than the aethetics and texture of the speakers. These little boxes make a big sonorous sound. I was actually pleasantly suprised by what they could do.
