This is the springtime release of this new Denon range and the 3600 has significant upgrades. So its now a full nine channel unit with 7.2.4 onboard processing that can fully decode an Atmos system. The Denon range has been our long time companion since we began in 1990 and is utterly dependable.

The 9.2 channel AVR features discrete high-current amplifiers with an RMS power rating of 105W per channel. Capable of powering 5.2.4 and 7.2.2 speaker configurations, the AVR-X3600H also includes processing of up to 11.2 channels with the addition of an external power amplifier.

In addition to supporting new Imax Enhanced format, the AVR-X3600H is capable of decoding the full suite of 3D sound formats, including Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and DTS Virtual:X. Additionally, the AVR-X3600H also supports Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization technology, which adds virtualised height and surround effects from stereo and surround content.

The new AVR has eight HDMI inputs and three HDMI outputs, all of which are HDCP 2.3 compatible and which make the amplifier appropriate for that heart of audio visual application as a multi room theatre with projector and television and another TV elsewhere application.

Unsurprisingly the AVR-X3600H supportsthe latest video formats including 4K Ultra HD 60Hz video, High Dynamic Range (HDR10), Dolby Vision, Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) 4:4:4 Pure Color sub-sampling, and BT.2020 pass-through.

The AVR-X3600H also features eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel), which is capable of delivering uncompressed and object-based audio from the AVR to a display via an HDMI cable. This is further rounded out by the inclusion of ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) for Xbox One owners with compatible TV's. This is intended to reduce Joystick latency for video gamers (I dont think they still use joysticks but you know what I mean if you are a gamer ...)

Denon has employed AKM 32-bit D/A converters for high-quality music and sound. The AVR also supports high-resolution audio, with the AVR capable of decoding multiple lossless file types including ALAC, FLAC and WAV at up to 24bit/192kHz. The DAC is also compatible with 2.8/5.6-MHz DSD files.

As part of Denon's 'H' range of products, the AVR-X3600 is also compatible with other HEOS wireless multi-room audio products. We really like the Australia designed HEOS streaming that operates seamlessly with Denon and Marantz products uneder the Sound United product group.

The Receiver hosts a range of smart features, including support for Apple AirPlay 2, Spotify, Deezer, Tidal and more, with the ability to connect wirelessly or via Bluetooth. Voice control is supported via Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple's Siri.

Continuing its long-standing relationship with Audyssey, the AVR-X3600H is equipped with Audyssey's premium MultEQ XT32 room correction software, with LFC, Sub EQ, Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ. SubEQ will be of particular interest to owners of dual subwoofers, providing independent control of each subwoofer's level and distance settings.

While Audyssey can be run directly from the AVR-X3600H, advanced users can dabble in everything from crossovers to house curves with Audyssey's MultEQ Editor app. The App is available from both the App and Google Play Stores for a small additional fee.

This Denon 3000 series Receiver is our go to product recommendation for an amplifier that can be incorporated into the heart of a home as a do it all Audio Visual centre for movies and music around the house. Throw a Panasonic UHD Blu Ray Player and an Nvidia Shield on it and it will do virtually everything you can think of for years ... possibly including turning you into a media corrupted couch potato ...
