Naim Nait 5Si is the latest iteration of an amplifier 30 years in the making. Naim is an iconic british HiFi brand that continues its 40 year legacy of design and manufacture in Salisbury, U.K. The very first NAIT amplifier was built at a time when Mr. Tiefenbrun of Linn Acoustics was proclaiming that all that matters in a HiFi system is your source, namely your turntable. For the purest reconstruction of pace, rythym and timing one needed to perfect the source of the electronic signal path and then keep everything as simple as possible through the amplifier and speakers which inherently (according to Tiefenbrun) don't have much impact on the sound.

At this time, there was an effort to frame the amplifier in a marketable sense as just something that outputed current but wasn't part of the HiFi craftmanship and nuanced engineering that really created a true HiFi experience. 

Although I'm appreciative of how much of a difference fantastic source material makes to a HiFi system (I even own a Linn Sondek Turntable) my experience and those of countless other HiFi shoppers would indicate that the amplifiers and speakers control an enormous amount in terms of what one hears musically out of a system. And given in this day and age when many of us own multiple HiFi sources (Turntable, CD player and streamer), switching between them and keeping our amplifier and speakers constant, it's more important to get your amplifier and speaker combination right.

And Naim sought to redirect this discourse, marketing the NAIT as a delicate piece in the HiFi system capable of transforming your musical experience. They even went so far as to refuse to publish the output values of the amplifier in an attempt to get people to think about the musical qualities of a unit rather than merely to compare its Watts with another unit. Alas, we still cling to comparing each amplifier by its rated watts which can be a wholly unhelpful exercise - that is an essay for another time!

But I digress, we should be talking about the Nait 5Si! A faithful and timeless amplifier that it is, it delivers a crisp sound that's not full of colouration but will add excitement and a sense of immediacy to the music.

The Roksan Attessa Streaming Amplifier is the new entry level integrated amp from Roksan.

It runs a hell of a lot of current so there's no problem driving any sort of speakers even though its rated Watts sounds a little lean at 80W into 8 Ohms.

It has some very cool features like 2 pre-outs so it can be beefed up with 2 separate power amplifiers and a processor loop allowing easy connection to surround sound receivers.

This is a very 'sweet' sounding amplifier. Often these pure Class A tube amplifiers with low Wattage are sweeter than their beefier brethren. And this is certainly the case with this unit.

Synthesis amplifiers are all made in Italy and they are one of the ultimate in Tube amplification. There are quite a lot of tube manufacturers on the market that produce units with a brittle, bright sound in this sub $10K category. Not Synthesis. The music is pure, without edges. The resolution is clear and transparent. As Synthesis says this amp has a 'detailed sound...above and beyond that which one would expect from an amplifier of twice its price'.

Any real Hi Fi freak loves a good amplifier and anyone whose been in the game since the eighties will have had something to do with a Yamaha product in their time. The AS1200 could have been made anytime in the last forty years and it will still be a recognisably excellent design in another forty years time.

This unit was used for a couple of days at the HiFi show and then packed up back into its box. It is in perfect condition and comes with full warranty.

A lovely amplifier from Welsh high-end electronics manufacturer, Leema. It offers incredible sonic performance ticking many boxes for functionality as well.

Leema Acoustics are a very established HiFi brand from Wales. A small factory with boutique appeal that's been making high end HiFi for decades. They've been a mainstay at Carlton Audio Visual and people particularly love them for their warmth and controlled presentation. 

This new version of the Pulse comes with such modern niceties as APTX bluetooth, great phono stage and a highly capable DAC.

This new version of the Elicit builds on the virtues of the Aethos but at a much more reasonable price. Now with an onboard DAC with optical and coaxial input to add to the bare necessities. We have always greatly valued these big hearted Rega amplifiers for their subtle musicality and exceptional usability with difficult loudspeakers. This is taut, punchy, and clear with even difficult load and inefficient loudspeakers.

This new RA1592 MkII quite clearly shows its lineage in its aesthetic and its build. But there are a couple of things that have elevated the design to new levels.

They now use the Burr-Brown or otherwise now known as Texas Instruments DAC chips as well as changing the internals up a bit as well with elements filtering down from Rotels new flagship Michi range. But for those who have always loved the curved retro lines of the 15 series, nothing has changed. 

It also keeps its versatility in connectivity. Basically it has a connection for anything you can think of...APTX Bluetooth, 3 optical ins, 3 coaxial ins, PC-USB, USB on the front panel specifically for iOS, MM phono stage, headphone amplifier and Balanced and Unbalanced Analogue inputs.

Its a convenient all-in-one box serious integrated amp.
