Acoustic Energy AE2 40th Anniversary Edition Speakers

The Acoustic Energy AE2 40th Anniversary Edition takes the celebrated AE2 concept and brings it boldly into the present day. Developed as a limited-edition model and inspired by the original AE2 Signature of the 1990s, it combines the character of that classic loudspeaker with the refinements introduced for the AE1 40th Anniversary Edition. The new 125 mm woofer uses a strengthened, ceramic-coated cone for greater efficiency and lower distortion, while a 29 mm aluminium dome tweeter help keep distortion down at higher levels. The cabinet is extensively damped with RSC material and strategically positioned steel plates, resulting in impressively low colouration and a remarkably clean, open presentation.

Like the smaller AE1 40th Anniversary, the AE2 takes a deliberately simple approach to the crossover, using low-order filters and high-quality components to preserve its natural, dynamic character. There’s more bass extension and headroom here, along with greater transparency through the midrange and the sort of punch that makes music feel properly alive. It has the scale and authority to work comfortably in rooms beyond around 25m², yet retains the imaging, placement flexibility and low cabinet colouration you’d normally associate with a stand mount. Finished in either ten-layer high-gloss black or walnut veneer, the AE2 40th Anniversary is a rather lovely blend of old-school musicality and modern engineering — and, importantly, it remains a speaker designed around the music rather than the specification sheet.
