Mission 770 Loudspeakers

The Mission 770 is a loudspeaker that doesn't need to shout about its history because music lovers have been doing that since 1978. Reimagined by Mission's Director of Acoustic Design, Peter Comeau - who remembers the original making waves first-hand - the new 770 is a respectful nod to a genuine hi-fi classic rather than a nostalgic remake. Even better, it's once again built in the UK, where Mission has brought production back to Huntingdon, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing. The familiar retro styling is all there too, complete with the white front baffle and real wood veneer, giving it the sort of timeless look that seems equally at home beside a vintage turntable or a contemporary streaming setup.

Underneath that classic exterior, however, the 770 has learned a few new tricks. A newly developed 8” mineral-loaded polypropylene bass/mid driver delivers tight, expressive bass, while the 1.25” soft dome tweeter keeps the top end smooth, detailed and wonderfully easy to listen to. The cabinet has been thoroughly re-engineered to reduce unwanted resonance, and after more than 170 crossover revisions - not to mention hundreds of hours of listening sessions - the result is a speaker that behaves like a single, perfectly coordinated performer rather than a collection of individual components. The Mission 770 doesn't simply revisit the past; it reminds you why some designs earn legendary status in the first place, then adds enough modern engineering to make rediscovering your music collection feel like a brand-new adventure.
