Sonus faber Olympica G3 V Floorstanding Speakers

The Sonus faber Olympica G3 V is an imposing yet beautifully resolved three-way floorstander, combining three woofers with a dedicated Camelia midrange and tweeter to produce a sound that is detailed, warm and remarkably natural. Its asymmetrical lute-shaped cabinet helps minimise internal resonances, while the midrange and tweeter sit within their own closed acoustic chamber, damped with a specially shaped cork structure developed through computer simulation. The result is impressive resolution and vocal realism, with plenty of depth and scale without losing the organic character that makes Sonus faber rather special.

As ever with Sonus faber, the design is almost as carefully considered as the engineering. Hand-finished walnut or wenge veneer is paired with sculptural proportions and matte grey sandblasted aluminium, with polished 45-degree chamfers adding a restrained touch of sophistication. The Camelia midrange uses a distinctive non-circular membrane to reduce unwanted resonances, while the combination of carefully chosen materials and precise acoustic engineering brings clarity and emotion together rather neatly. It is a substantial loudspeaker, but one with a surprisingly graceful presence.
