The Yamaha WXA-70A puts a remarkably capable amplifier and streamer into a compact, neatly finished case. Rated at 55 Watts per channel, it combines Yamaha’s MusicCast platform with network streaming, AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect and Bluetooth, while high-resolution audio support makes it a rather serious proposition for such a modestly sized component.

Digital and analogue inputs make it easy to accommodate existing sources, while the subwoofer output provides a welcome degree of flexibility for adding some extra low-end authority. There’s also MusicCast multi-room functionality, allowing the WXA-70A to become part of a larger system. Small enough to tuck away almost anywhere, but with enough power and sophistication to drive a proper pair of speakers, it’s a wonderfully sensible little amplifier.
