The H2 model is a high-quality turntable with belt drive and a tonearm with gimbal suspension. The unusual shape of the turntable was chosen to minimize possible interference from the platter bearing on the tonearm. To avoid sound-disturbing influences from the motor or impact sound, a sandwich construction was chosen, with a layer of vibration-damping foam inserted in the center. The chassis is made of solid surface material, which has low resonance due to its high density and physical structure, making it an ideal material for this application. The construction is robust and the facilities are always Hi Fi appropriate. Other brands come and go with fashionista frippery but Rotel feature like pre outs, good phono stages, high quality terminals, toroidal power supplies hand wound with a particular copper, all contribute to usability and musicality.

The S14 Streamer Amplifier is a just add speakers product and it is really simple and easy to set up. Where previous rotel ventures into internet products have been slightly cryptic this is just a plug and play distance from the music.

I paired with really inappropriate $20K plus Sonus faber Olympica Nova 3 loudspeakers to test it that are usually loaded with the likes of 1000watt Michi monoblocks and this thing just ... sailed through ...

What struck even on the first trial was that I was able to keep turning it up ... this slim box carries a lot of real drive and it is a testament to Rotel design that such a compact slightly innocuous chassis can turn the wick up so far on difficult speakers staying clean and focused. 

There is that characteristic Rotel tonality where there is a forwardness to the upper mid that can benefit certain loudspeakers and put the singers in the room with you.

This new Creek 4040 is an absolute cutie of small form factor high fidelity amplification in homage to the original 4040 that was ... forty years ago ...

The original model 4040 amp was so sonically polite and self effacing that it was very hard to sell in comparative demos but loved forever by those who took it home. Having played it now this a really serious contender for a jolly brilliant amplifier with bells and whistles of something much more expensive ... for some reason a Renault Alpine or Crighton CR700 come to mind ... something small that is much higher performance than its size suggests.

If this was an asteroid on its to hit the planet then it may well cause the extinction of the mammals. At 50kg it is one of the most massive single box amplifiers that I have ever encountered and is gorgeous.

First encounter was playing it through a pair of Dynaudio Confidence 60 sourced by a Marantz SA10. Fresh out of the box the Michi X5 lacks the glare and oft harsh treble of many of the super amplifier designs without being salubrious like a Musical Fidelity X8i. It has needless to say terrific poise with no overhang or bloom on these critical speakers and an instant rendition of space that is immensely gratifying.

I dived straight in with Patti Smith Horses and her raw proto punk seventies energy was immaculately recreated with this powerhouse running the system. 

The amplifier is physically gorgeous, although some may find the black looks unsettling. In use it is both tactile and entertaining. The new Michi Trademark display that suddenly illuminates in the panel is excellent fun.
