The Altair G2.1 is the unit in Auralic's range that does it all. A Preamplifier, DAC and Streamer with options to put in a 2TB hard drive and even a CD ripper.

Not only does it have the analogue line and Moving Magnet phono inputs, it also doesn't simply convert these into digital signals within the chassis. Rather they are kept completely separate from the digital circuitry. Also the volume control is an analogue design based on resistive ladder construction. A less noisy, cleaner choice than other designs out there. Such all-in-one units have tended to use cheaper less fullfilling preamplifier modules that I normally recommend customers to bypass. That's not the case here.

Also a superior power supply and thick copper shielded chassis with isolating feet mean that noise and vibrations are kept to an absolute minimum. Couple that with a pair of super accurate clocks reducing jitter and this is a unit that stands above others in its category.

The A12 is a favoured work horse for systems where power control and flexibility is needed. At the heart of this amplifier is an over engineered toroidal transformer - a big chunky power supply designed to limit interference with other components within the chassis.

Rotel is so renowned for making hefty power supplies, they sell them to other HiFi manufacturers.

This unit is very similar to the previous generations the big difference being the change in DAC from an AKM to a Texas instruments DAC. This change has not surprisingly coincided with the large fire at the AKM factory in Japan that has decimated stocks of AKM parts.

So reading between the lines, this was a change that was forced upon Rotel. Not that the Texas instruments DACs are bad or there's a decrease in performance. Just that, yes, they're slightly different. Rotel has held true to its sound signature though and tweeked things so they still sound fundamentally like Rotel.

Who knows, maybe when AKM stocks become available again we'll have the 'A14 Revisited'

SVS has reimagined their most popular line of subwoofers, the 2000 series. Their lows are lower and they just got even tighter. These were already some of the most accolade endowed subwoofers around, and they're even better now.

Plus they offer Volume, DSP control and preset control all via an app!

I've personally had Koss Porta Pro Headphones for a number of years now and I added a pair of the Koss Porta Pro wireless version to the stable after going through a couple of pairs of Earbuds that were incompatible with me...I'm still not sure whether that's because I get unusually sweaty ears or tiny ears or a combination of both but they would never stay in my ears.

These are super comfortable though and sound massively better than the Earbuds. The Bluetooth receiver does jiggle a little but that's an easy trade-off for me for not having to worry about an Earbud falling out of my ear onto the pavement.
