The CLG-W12 is a passive subwoofer. Clarity on the 500s are not lost. The metal dome tweeter has been improved with changes to the waveguide surrounding it. The main drivers have also undergone some changes resulting in a tighter, more precise sound.

From the 6th generation to the 6th generation, the finishes on the 500s has been updated seeing more of a natural quality and the addition of a satin white and gloss black as well. We also have easy access to the full colour sweep here in Australia which wasn't the case for the 6th generation.

LINE STAGE PREAMPLIFIER

In 2010 we announced the Reference Anniversary preamplifier, a special limited edition product commemorating our 40th anniversary. It was acclaimed by many as the finest preamplifier available and a fitting tribute to all of the classic Audio Research products that were introduced during the forty years that preceded it. That we would only accept new orders for this special product during the anniversary year surprised almost everyone, but we considered the limited time frame appropriate. Since that time, we have learned a few things, and the result of that knowledge led to the development of the Reference 10. Included are critically chosen new components, proprietary custom-made capacitors, wiring, and new connectors that cumulatively provide a level of performance never before achieved. Key Audio Research design traits remain: The signal path is fully discrete, all-tube, pure Class-A, with zero feedback. Other attributes and choices remain, too: Each unit is completely hand-soldered and hand-constructed in our Minnesota facility using the finest materials, with major components such as custom transformers, plated-through circuit boards, and casework sourced locally. All engineering is performed in-house.

Monitor Audio Silver 200 7G from the 7th Generation of the Silver series is the elegant, slim form factor floorstanding speaker. The 200s may not fill a large space like the Silver 300s and 500s, but they are a perfect option for a small living room where floor space is valuable and listeners are discerning.

Many of our clients in smaller spaces have opted for Silver 200s over Bookshelf speakers. Once Bookshelf speaker stands are accounted for, the silver 200s are that slim that they actually have a smaller footprint than their equivalent bookshelf speakers. And with the extra mid driver the sound is more consistent throughout the frequency sweep. 

This 7th Generation of Silver 200s sees an update to the mid-bass drivers and tweeter waveguide that results in more precision and clarity in the sound. The DAC9 digital-to-analog converter decodes most current formats with state-of-the-art vacuum tube technology. Five digital connections - USB, RCA, BNC, AES/EBU, and Toslink - provide connectivity to all of your digital sources. Quad DAC architecture provides a balanced digital signal, wide dynamic range, and decoding resolutions from red book CD up to 384 kHz and native DSD sampling rates. A pair of 6H30 vacuum tubes are the heart of the analog circuit. Both balanced and single-ended connectors are provided for output connectivity. Native-rate upsampling and selectable digital filters allow customization of the digital signal.

 We have always seen the Monitor Audio Gold range as where the Audiophile High-End really starts. The realism that these uniquely designed Micro Pleated Diaphragm tweeters produces are extraordinary.These tweeters work like an accordion to rapidly squeeze and pull out a thin bit of metal that is folded over itself. This technology was once reserved for the Platinum series but has found its way now into the Gold range. The 300s are the big boys of the Gold range and as such have that rubbling low-end extension. Settings adjustment is provided by the innovative controller mounted on the cabinet top panel, or by using Monitor Audio’s proprietary ‘SubConnect’ software. The settings provide four fully configurable user pre-sets per input, including modes for; Flat/Music/Movie and Impact equaliser settings. Fine-tuning can be made by adjusting the frequency, slope, trim and equaliser filters for each pre-set. The Night Mode actively reduces the dynamic range of louder sections according to the level the listener desires.
