A slim and elegant form factor speaker but with a beefy sound. This is the archetype of the modern line array floorstanding loudspeaker.

The Acoustic Energy AE320 speakers have a very polite and neat appearance that leads one to believe that they are yet another effete English design for violin lovers ... however let them rip with a decently powerful amplifier and they are fast and furious with hard rock and roll, they don't hold back and at the same time, the brittle treble quality that characterises the West Atlantic continent designs is completely absent from these loudspeakers.

The original Electa Amator was one of the foundation models for Sonus faber that set the seductive timbre and musicaity allied to unique cabinetry artisanship that is very much the signature of this brand.

The Electa Amator III is immensly tactile with its combination of wood marble and leather, In my mind it feels like one of those precious pieces of preserved Roman art that is found in the corridoors of The Louvre rather than a mere loudspeaker.

A network player or streamer has become an essential part of a modern HiFi system and for the very best in musicality, you can't go past a Naim. The NDX2 is one of their very best devices to date and is a delight to use. Put this together with the Supernait amplifier and you have a friend for life in your music. The NDX2 is getting into some pretty serious territory but it more than holds its own. This is about extended bass and a warm treble nature that is far away from the digital harshness of many products.

It really is no wonder that Naim have quickly become one of the best in the business at producing Streamers. From their inception, they've been focused on not just putting wires and components together to make the biggest amplifiers. They're about finding the cleanest most emotionally effective way to deliver music to a listener. A lot of their effort has gone into power supplies and the brilliance that's musically created when a units power source is perfectly engineered. 

All those 40 years of design expertise has been poured into what is to date one of the very best streamers that I've heard. The synergy of useability and music quality they have achieved with the NDX2 is remarkable.

The new Bronze 100 Bookshelf speakers are the large bookshelves in Monitor Audio's 6th Generation of the ever popular Bronze Range. They replace the Bronze 2s but have been completely redesigned from the bottom up, not just tweaked here and there.

We're very sad to see the last of the Bronze 2s walk out the door because they've been such an awesome speaker for so many of our customers...in fact they were Carlton Audio Visual's best selling speaker if their generation

So the Bronze 100s have very large shoes to fill. Are they up to the task?

Yes they are. Actually, we think they're better.

An even bigger sound but with more tightness in the bass and that bit of refinement in sound that was lacking with the Bronze 2. There's no front firing port on the new Bronze 100 but this is a good compromise with this speaker and goes a long way to improving the sound. If you are worried about speaker placement being too close to a wall, a couple of foam bungs in the ports will solve that.

Actually the Bronze 100s are really good at low volumes and retain an even frequency balance across a wide spectrum of volume operations. Just generally many speakers are tuned so that they are only offering a full and balanced sound over a relatively narrow volume range. The Bronze 100s are a slightly unfashionable size but this gives them a particular advantage in this respect. They are one of the great all round loudspeaker designs for their sensible asking of the monies.

Complete with 4 silencers on the platter that dampen vibrations, capacity to have up to 3 different tonearms and diamond coated spindle on the bearing, this is a serious turntable from a company that's serious about turntables.

You won't find any mention of colouration, bloom or muddiness in descriptions of this turntable. If you're after the fluffy uncontrolled vinyl sounds of the 70s, there are many other options out there. If you want to hear what modern turntable design of the 21st century can do when every detail of the Turntable is examined for its inertia and low resonance properties, you must look at an Acoustic Signature. The result of though-out engineering coupled with an exposed yet beautiful industrial design is a turntable that is sounds devastatingly clear and musical and shows off its engineering prowess with a raw beauty.

This is a true do-it-all unit. DAB, streaming, phono stage and a plethora of digital and analogue inputs. Not the power and authority of the other units in the Yamaha RN range but still relatively grunty for the price point. 

This unit finds itself in a price point with the Rotel A11 which is as highly featured but is another Japanese designed work horse stereo amp. The Yamaha gets a real vintage look to it though with all its knobs and dials.

These are the same size as the standard steel SM5 isolation devices but they are built from titanium.  Can the change of materials make a difference?  Absolutely: the titanium Silent Mount SM5s are identical in size to the stainless steel SM5s but are considerable lighter. The reduced weight improves energy transfer and this is why the titanium version produces a better performance.  Timing, dynamics and coherence are all improved and the image is more solid with instruments and voices well defined and accurately placed within the soundstage.

The titanium SM5s are designed to be used with any high performance rack or table.

We use them underneath an Audiophile Star Base rack in our demonstration room and we have also used them with turntable supports, where the improvements to sound quality are particularly striking. Like many upgrades it very easy to quickly get used to the big improvements that the titanium SM5s make.  Taking them out of the system is genuinely surprising and leaves you in no doubt as to how much of a contribution they are making.

All Silent Mounts are supplied with a set of self adhesive thin felt pads. If the rack is sited on anything other than a carpeted floor, the felt pads should be fitted to the base of each Silent Mount. The felt pad has been specifically chosen to minimise any vibration between the Silent Mount and the floor and will ensure that you get the best performance. If the silent Mount is being used on a carpeted floor the Felt pads should not be fitted.

Each Silent Mount SMF5 titanium isolation mount will support up to 50 Kilos in weight.

As opposed to a simple weight on the platter, the Grip S precisely locks the record to the platter with less stress on the bearing and turntable.

Unlike other clamps that require a full unscrewing to take off, all that is needed with the Grip S is a simple quarter turn. Swapping sides and records becomes a lot less arduous.

Acoustic Signature also includes the silencers in the Grip S. These copper inserts that are pressed into the Grip S dampen any residual resonances on the platter for an even better performance.

With this precise way of locking down the record, cartridge tracking is improved and any uneveness in the record itself is eliminated.

The PH9 phono preamplifier is a great pairing with most cartridge and turntable combinations.

A trio of 6H30 vacuum tubes are at the core of a simple and clear signal path to provide the most transparent preamplification possible.

Five different impedance settings allow for cartridge loading, which can be changed on the fly with the included metal remote. Cartridge impedance, tube hours, auto shutdown, and other features are included in the menu system.

The PH9 forms an integral part of our reference system and sits alongside the Audio Research Ref 6 preamp and 160M Monoblocks that power the Sonus Faber Aida 2s.
