Not too small to be able to properly add bass to a decent set of floorstanders but also not big and cumbersome. The horror of 'large, black monolith subwoofer' is one step too far for some consumers.

Also if you'd like to add bass but keep the musical integrity of your system intact, a REL is perfect. There is one way to get extreme bass from a small box without going into weird science ... and SVS are following a tried and trusted horizontally opposed drive unit path here to get that deep bass from a tiny enclosure. Other pundits of this design path have been Devialet with their Phantom speaker series and Sunfire with their excellent subwoofers. The SVS however is offering this at a very reasonable price point that has not been hitherto available. You get a very compact and powerful unit that is  excellent at discreetly adding deep bass to a surround system.

The Gravis I Subwoofer is a petite unit with a gorgeous wood or polished finish.

It features a high level input and a beefer class AB amplifier like the REL subwoofers which makes it very versatile with music and home theatre listening.

But its small, single 8" driver may leave some hankering for more bass. If that's the case there is the Gravis II or even the III, V and VI!
