This comes packaged up into a slim, elegant unit that is an ease to use.

The Denon AVC-X3800H is a game changer in the AV market place. The biggest and most exciting change for me with this unit is the capability of having 4 subwoofers! 

Not only do they add the extra two sub-outs they've upgraded the processing faculty around the subwoofers. So you can choose to put all four subs in mono, that's pretty standard...but you can also choose to match those subs up with Front Right, Front Left, Rear Right and Rear Left speakers!! EQs and chanel adjustment can be made individually to each pair of speakers and sub to make this a worthwhile exercise.

At the moment the only unit we have that truly capable of pulling off more than 2 subwoofers is the Trinnov Altitude 16 that retails for $25,995! So to have something that gets even remotely close to that in the sub $3K price range is truly spectacular.

There's an optional upgrade with the AVC-X3800H to have the high end Dirac Live room optimisation system installed. A worthwhile upgrade especially if you're going to add two extra Subwoofers.

But all of this really equates to a unit that will live with you for many upgrades to come. I feel that Denon is demonstrating a move to offering upgrade paths, where it can, rather than a churn and burn consumerism.

This is a premium media player for those that want the best picture and audio quality from their media source and not simply the mediocracy of an apple TV.

This unit supports lossless HIFi Streaming, as well as a true cinema experience for your movies. Better colours and more capable processing.

CD Players are considered an endangered species in the market so it might appear that Rotel are slightly brave to be releasing a new high end model at the moment. However in our part of the market CD layers are alive and thriving as they are purchased by people who have advanced and numerous CD collections that cannot be qualitatively matched by streaming sources. The Rotel 1572 CD Player is a good example of this ... although a plain jane disc spinner product it has intrinsic good sound and build quality that just keeps selling steadily. The DT6000 improves on that engineering for sound and longevity even further and in fact sets a new standard for a Rotel product in this category. The old Aquarius EVO3 has been incredibly successful and a clear and easy step up from a basic power board for many of our clients. The V5 is building on that success but offering a lot more in the package.

It still has 6 discreet outlets of conditioned power but it's capacity for instantaneous power has dramatically increased as has the surge protection it offers. The PCB circuit board design has been completely reworked and better components with improved tolerances have been sourced.

Overall this means a more dynamics, bigger sound, simply put, more of that good Hi-Fi stuff for your ears at home.

The Yamaha NS-800A speakers have just landed at Carlton Audio Visual. We've had them running in and stretching their wings in the main demo space.

The NS-800A feature the same innovative cabinet design as the top of the range NS-5000 speakers. That is to say that instead of packing the insides of the cabinet with acoustically absorbing material like foam, Yamaha uses their 'absorber tubes'. These don't completely dampen the sound rather they keep a freshness and pep to the music.

Even without being fully run-in, these speakers are exciting, forward and immeadiate. They don't quite have all the pep of the NS-5000s but that's to be expected given that the NS-5000s are nearly triple the price.

They also don't feature the Zylon drivers of the NS-5000s having instead a pulp (paper) mix in the driver. The Zylon evidently works to give the higher range of speakers extra punch and attack.

But the lineage is still clear and if you love that Yamaha pure and fast sound, you're going to love these.

What I've also noticed is unlike a lot of bookshelf speakers, the mid-range is still quite present with the NS-800a. They are quite consistent throughout the frequency sweep and don't show the characteristic hole in the mids which plagues many a lesser set of bookshelves.

You won't be dissapointed by their bass either. Rich and full. Surprising for a bookshelf speaker, even one like this, that is on the larger side. But more importantly articulation and attack are not lost in the bass either. This can be another pitfall of less efficient bookshelves that find it difficult to articulate bass lines and give you more wooliness than crispness.

The Big Reds are a no compromise design by Dr Rod Crawford. With amplifiers built in that perfectly match not only the speaker but each individual driver. Normally, when we build up HiFi systems that use a separate amplifier to power each driver, you're looking at a price tag of 10s of thousands of dollars. In this case you can get all of those benefits and more.

These Big Reds also boast an active crossover design that is handled by a separate box, the DEQX. This smart little box also adjusts for any discrepancies of each individual driver as well as those inherent in your listening room.

In whatever situation these end up in, they are sure to astound!

This is the new version of a very dear favourite. A richness to the sound that does away with the brittleness and edge normally associated with the sound of cds. This CD player is the most 'vinyl' sounding CD player I've ever heard.

The new unit has some updated aesthetics but keeps the same internals as the older Saturn R.

The Acoustic Energy AE320 speakers have a very polite and neat appearance that leads one to believe that they are yet another effete English design for violin lovers ... however let them rip with a decently powerful amplifier and they are fast and furious with hard rock and roll, they don't hold back and at the same time, the brittle treble quality that characterises the West Atlantic continent designs is completely absent from these loudspeakers.

Designed to pair with the matching streaming amplifier, Roksan have made some interesting choices in the design of their new CD transport.

Uniquely, you can control this CD transport via the BluOs app. This is the software system developed for BlueSound components. If you already have BlueSound, the Attessa units will integrate perfectly into your home multi-room audio setup.

As the name suggests it is purely a transport with no Digital to Analogue Converter attached and therefore needs to be connected to an amplifier with a DAC or a separate DAC unit. Do note, there is only one digital out of this unit, a Coax out, so you'll need to use that connection on a DAC. Coax digital connection is what we suggest you use for such digital connections anyway.

It forms a sleek integrated system with the Attessa streaming amplifier where it its design and functionality will shine.

Anthem AVM-70 is capable of 15.2 channels of processing. That's a hefty amount of processing perfect for serious high-end residential theatres. It comes with everything you'd expect of a modern surround processor: 4K/60Hz pass-through (8K pass-through will be an upgradeable option), HDR10, Dolby vision, apple Airplay, Bluetooth & Google Chromecast.

It's a great option for a full 15.2 channels worth of processing that sits at a slightly better price than the Marantz AV8805.
