Monitor Audio Silver 100 7G from the brand new 7th generation of the ever popular Silver series. It's the big bookshelf speaker - bigger than a normal bookshelf speaker. The first design of this sort of speaker was slated as an experiment with no real expectations that it would succeed. On the contrary, the Silver 2s (as they were then known) were extremely poplular. People loved the extra bass and musical presence they possesed without the need for going to a full floorstanding speaker.

The 7th generation of these speakers draws on those winning design features tweaking things like the mid-bass drivers and the wave guide for a little extra clarity and precision.

The cabinets have had a refresh as well. Nothing dramatic but the wood finishes look natural and textural. We also have the full range of finishes now widely available in Australia.

Monitor Audio Silver 200 7G from the 7th Generation of the Silver series is the elegant, slim form factor floorstanding speaker. The 200s may not fill a large space like the Silver 300s and 500s, but they are a perfect option for a small living room where floor space is valuable and listeners are discerning.

Many of our clients in smaller spaces have opted for Silver 200s over Bookshelf speakers. Once Bookshelf speaker stands are accounted for, the silver 200s are that slim that they actually have a smaller footprint than their equivalent bookshelf speakers. And with the extra mid driver the sound is more consistent throughout the frequency sweep. 

This 7th Generation of Silver 200s sees an update to the mid-bass drivers and tweeter waveguide that results in more precision and clarity in the sound. The first time I played them with my all too familiar Johnny Cash "Hurt", I immediately recognised an extra layer of revealed detail in the upper registers. However the Hyphn can do this without being piercingly actinic like so many high end loudspeaker designs. Mr Cash simply was eloquently melancholic in a heart rending rendition of an all too familiar tune.

They are also comfortable in a real domestic environment without the listeners being forced into a super critical centrality to experience the whole performance. Many very high performance transducers are extremely critical of listening position and acoustic space, these are designed for a real living room, albeit probably rather a nice one.

The reference speaker of the Silver 7G range by Monitor Audio. Big and boisterous capable of filling the largest rooms with a full involving sound. For smaller rooms as well, this speaker has bass for days and is a fun, expressive speaker.

Clarity on the 500s are not lost. The metal dome tweeter has been improved with changes to the waveguide surrounding it. The main drivers have also undergone some changes resulting in a tighter, more precise sound.

From the 6th generation to the 6th generation, the finishes on the 500s has been updated seeing more of a natural quality and the addition of a satin white and gloss black as well. We also have easy access to the full colour sweep here in Australia which wasn't the case for the 6th generation.

The much anticipated Meze 109 Pro Headphones have arrived at Carlton Audio Visual. I first heard these in May in Munich and knew they'd be extremely popular. The headphone marketplace is missing a HiFi level headphone at the mid $1K mark and these fill those shoes.

They punch above their pricepoint and are detailed, full sounding, big soundstage type headphone. These aren't a plastic headphone that only sell because they're endorsed by some forgettable celebrity.

Meze are a relatively new (10 years old) Romanian manufacturer of headphones making big waves in the industry. They are a group of young professionals passionate about the products they make and the work they do. Having met a whole bunch of them, I get the impression they all could be off making a lot more money working in Germany or Switzerland for big corporates but they prefer to stay in their home country working with their friends and colleagues on great products.

For a lot of people, a slim soundbar that delivers clarity and depth to the sound without encompassing the whole entertainment space is a perfect solution. This is the model 130 node that slightly confusingly has less numbers on the box than the earlier model. This is the update for the model 2i and Bluesound has made some quality-of-life improvements under the hood of the new products with a new quad-core ARM Cortex A53 processor and a new DAC that operates at 32-bit/384 kHz and supports audio resolutions up to 24-bit/192 kHz.

The new units also include HDMI eARC and also have a lower signal-to-noise ratio of -113 (down from -110dB) and THD+N of 0.002% (down from 0.005%). There have been some design improvements with an enhanced full-glass touch interface and precise volume slider.

Naim is one of the best of English HiFi brands harking from Salisbury where their design and manufacturing facilities are located. They are one of the true high-end electronic brands that make gear like their Statement Amplifiers retailing for a cool $375,000 for a set.

This little CD player is their entry level but for most people this doesn't represent your typical first-time-buyer HiFi component. It's intricately thought out, meticulously engineered, clean and musical. 

The typical comparison is with Rega and Cyrus CD players, both english and both also in our inventory. The Naim is more transparent sounding than a Rega Apollo, finding more detail and space in the music. It's closer in performance to the bigger (and more expensive) Rega Saturn. The Saturn, however, has a richer tonality to it than the Naim. A bit more 'rounded' on the treble. The Cyrus CDi, has a similar sound signature and as a half size unit it offers a convenient footprint. The slot mechanism will never be a perfectly reliable solution for a CD player though and what Naim has done with their tray and resonance reduction is really admirable.
