This is a well thought out turntable from well-respected Pro-Ject. They've used classic aspects of their design and bundled the best of them into a great, not-overly-priced, turntable.

This Turntable comes with a light and super stiff Tonearm being made from a carbon fibre/aluminium sandwich, an acoustically dampening acrylic platter and the convenience of speed control at the end of your finger tips on the deck. Doing away with having to lift up the platter to change the speed for those 45rpm records.

Finished off in a walnut veneer, this deck looks sleek and beautiful in any home.

The sum of these improvements is exceptional, further breaking down the barrier between reproduced sound and the immediacy of a live event.

The Denon AVC-X3800H is a game changer in the AV market place. The biggest and most exciting change for me with this unit is the capability of having 4 subwoofers! 

Not only do they add the extra two sub-outs they've upgraded the processing faculty around the subwoofers. So you can choose to put all four subs in mono, that's pretty standard...but you can also choose to match those subs up with Front Right, Front Left, Rear Right and Rear Left speakers!! EQs and chanel adjustment can be made individually to each pair of speakers and sub to make this a worthwhile exercise.

At the moment the only unit we have that truly capable of pulling off more than 2 subwoofers is the Trinnov Altitude 16 that retails for $25,995! So to have something that gets even remotely close to that in the sub $3K price range is truly spectacular.

There's an optional upgrade with the AVC-X3800H to have the high end Dirac Live room optimisation system installed. A worthwhile upgrade especially if you're going to add two extra Subwoofers.

But all of this really equates to a unit that will live with you for many upgrades to come. I feel that Denon is demonstrating a move to offering upgrade paths, where it can, rather than a churn and burn consumerism.

Monitor Audio are continually updating their speakers and making discernible improvements to the sound and finish of their products.

Their latest refresh sees a new slant on the ever popular Silver range. An updated mid/bass driver and wave guide on the tweeter are the major improvements to the sound. But the apple is not falling far from the tree. For those who have always loved the sound of the silver range, you won't be shocked by drastic changes in the core sound. Simply slight improvements in clarity and presentation.

The same goes for the finish of the cabinets. There are changes to the colours. The walnut is richer and less red. I think it looks more natural. We also see the wide spread availability of the White and Ash (likened to the old natural Oak) finishes in Australia as well as a Gloss Black and an Oak Black finish.

Epic Digital features Tuned ARAY conductor geometry. Whilst it’s the critical element in producing such outstanding cables, the other materials used to produce this cable have also been improved. The silver-plated conductors have been upgraded and the separate shields for send and return conductors are of a higher density.

The M3scd has been designed to give outstanding CD reproduction and to be a digital hub. In addition to CD it has 3 digital inputs: coax, optical and asynchronous USB.

This makes it particularly useful for set top boxes and/or TV sound improvement. The technical performance is excellent; it has very low distortion, extremely low jitter, excellent signal-to-noise ratio, extremely flat frequency response, exemplary linearity and excellent channel separation.

All in all the M3scd gives excellent CD replay and can act as a versatile digital hub at the same time.

These German turntables are high mass engineering marvels. Designers have tried many other ways to build turntables like springs, magnetic levitation and light weight acoustically dampening materials. Essentially they have skirted around having to actually build proper bearings to cope with the loads of real High Mass decks. Building real bearings like those in the new Neo range of Acoustic Signature is hard!

The silencer concept in the Acoustic Signature Turntables have also elimated the resonant frequencies that casued issues in other High Mass turntables.

Dynamics, precision, naturalness and spine-tingles are all there for the taking with the Hurricane Neo.

The Elex R is made in the English Rega factory and is one of the best buys available for a real stereo amp that one would justifiably expect to last a generation or two in a family. The particular first impression I got from the Elex was a sense of Deja Vu that put me back in the Imperial War Museum and being given a slab of 40mm armour from a Tiger Tank. It is quite remarkably solid and in fact on the hi-fi component inertia scale is possibly the highest scoring item ever ....

Turn table bubble-level

If a turntable is to perform at its best, it is vital that the platter is absolutely level. A number of bubble-level devices are available to assist with turntable leveling, but none deliver the unerring accuracy of the Blue Horizon Prolevel.

Most bubble-level devices simply rest on the platter, acting like a regular spirit level. To ensure maximum precision, Prolevel slips over the spindle and, uniquely, grips it via a clamping mechanism using spring-loaded plungers situated within the main aluminium housing.

Sometimes a speaker needs to be discreet. That shouldn't mean that it can't sound good however. Take the Krix IC-50 all that's visible in your room is a speaker grille and a vanishing thin bezel...

Once it's in that temporary storage on the unit, you don't have to worry about buffering that track will play seamlessly. This system also makes things sound better creating more isolation.
