Looking like a wet dream Q Acoustic 3030 in the finish they always promised but never delivered, these are a serious bit of high energy audiophile quadruply amplified bookshelf loudspeaker. Seriously the walnut gloss finish is actually extremely elegant, and perhaps serves to allay the slightly rotund form. (also please note they are $3200 in polished walnut as against $2725 in black or white)

The form is actually dictated by physics, if you want to get the best quality sound out of the smallest box with excellent imageing and good bass, well, you end up with cabinet about this size and drive unit configuration. Chord Electronics has generally steered clear of full size integrateds prefering to manufacture separate pre and power amplifiers. There are many advantages with the separates design but many HiFi enthusiasts will appreciate the convenience and simplicity of the single chassis.

This new Creek 4040 is an absolute cutie of small form factor high fidelity amplification in homage to the original 4040 that was ... forty years ago ...

The original model 4040 amp was so sonically polite and self effacing that it was very hard to sell in comparative demos but loved forever by those who took it home. Having played it now this a really serious contender for a jolly brilliant amplifier with bells and whistles of something much more expensive ... for some reason a Renault Alpine or Crighton CR700 come to mind ... something small that is much higher performance than its size suggests.
