The D-352 Hybrid is the next step up from the famous CS-122 Hybrud. Due to the thicker gauge it provides slightly more bass, wider imaging & a slighly lower noise flaw. As expected from the Van Den Hul range the D-352 produces no fatigue and is slightly warm biased with faithful transparency. 

Chord Odyssey uses the same materials as Rumour.   Odyssey’s heavier gauge conductors bring so much more detail and dynamics to a system, along with a degree of control and definition that can transform the performance of both floor and stand mounted loudspeakers.  Odyssey was launched in 1998 and set a new standard of performance. It’s neutrality, its compatibility and consistency of performance from system to system made it very rapidly our most popular speaker cable.

Hi-Fi News magazine liked Chord Odyssey so much because of its performance and price that it won the best speaker cable award for five years in a row.

Over the years, changes have been cosmetic only. The current version has a white PVC outer jacket with a diameter of 8mm, still discrete in speaker cable terms and still good enough to let even the biggest of systems sing like they should.

The conductors used in Odyssey are also found in Chord Epic and Epic Reference speaker cables.

Shawline X speaker cable is based around Chord Rumour (now known as Rumour X) – a favourite for 20+ years.  The conductors are silver-plated, insulated with XLPE and arranged in a twisted pair configuration.  To produce Chord Shawline X, we’ve taken the existing conductor layout, added a specially chosen PVC internal jacket to reduce mechanical noise, before applying the same high density, dual-layer foil and braid shield that we use on Chord Epic.

This is a rich and warm sounding speaker cable. A very good quality HiFi speaker cable but it was designed as an installation grade cable. Therefore it is super flexible and able to get around tight corners where a lot of other HiFi speaker cable cannot.

This makes it extremely popular and versatile choice.

I had this cable on my home system with Rega amps and PMC twenty5.21s and it brought out the richness in tone of that system. 

Designed like the highly acclaimed Oval 12 but using 14 gauge wire. Clear Oval uses the patented hollow oval woven design in which every conductor is as close to the return current as every other wire. Rated for in-wall use.

The Van Den Hul CS-122 has long been the reference for affordable speaker cable's. Its design is based on the twin version of the CS – 12 HF and its main desgn goal was to provide a high quality reference stereo lead cable at a fair price. The 2 conductors are made of 147 strands of 0.16 mm. diameter high purity Matched Crystal OFC with a very dense pure silver coating.

Chord Rumour has been our go to speaker cable for reasonably priced systems for over 20 years. Incredible detail with no harshness and a very audible soundstage.

Now evolved into Rumour X with new insulation

"Previous versions of Rumour speaker cables used PTFE insulation (often referred to as Teflon™) and until the arrival of Taylon®, this was our “go to” material. Although expensive, PTFE offered the best performance.

Material technology is constantly developing and improving and alternatives to PTFE are now available. While the high cost of Taylon® prevents us from using this in all of our ranges, we were able to find a suitable family of insulation materials known as XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene). One version of this material looked particularly interesting and following listening tests, proved to be clearly better than the PTFE in Rumour speaker cable – now known as Rumour X."

The LS-502 has two symmetrically arranged strands, each containing 37 concentrically stranded wires. The thick wires demonstrate its class even when used with high-performance systems.<br><br>AUDIO (LS-502): “... the sound is so warm, just as you would expect from in-akustik reference – direct, honest, straightforward.”

The ClearwayX uses 14 AWG multi-strand oxygen free copper conductors – big enough to bring control and definition to both book shelf and floor standing loud speakers. The insulation has been recently upgraded from FEP to XLPE which has a comparable performance to PTFE. Choice of insulation has a profound effect on a speaker cable and contributes to its neutrality. The wrong choice of insulation can produce unwanted tonal colourations.

What about tarnish?

It’s a common mistake to think that because silver oxidises it is a poor conductor. The reality is that silver does not oxidise until it reaches 170 C. It does, however, tarnish at room temperature, reacting with sulphur in the air.
Although tarnished silver is not the nicest thing to look at (on ornaments or cutlery), electrically, it is less troublesome.

Tarnish (normally silver sulphide) is a soft and malleable material and can be easily moved aside with very little force. We ensure these forces are present in our speaker plugs and spade connectors. The diagram below illustrates the fact that no matter how smooth a contact looks to the naked eye, it is still quite rough at a microscopic level. There are limited points of actual contact, even under fairly high levels of force. By simply moving a connector in and out of the socket, it is possible to effectively clean the contact points. Ensure all equipment is switched off before doing this simple maintenance procedure.

Plugs will also benefit from a major clean, using a good contact cleaner or enhancer.

A great way to get into a high quality silver plated speaker cable for a very reasonable price. The Clearwater has detail and

no harshness and the spatial reproduction is superior.

C-screen is a brand new shielded speaker cable aimed at both audio and home cinema systems.  It joins the award-winning line up of Chord Company shielded speaker cables, including the acclaimed Clearway and the high-performance Signature Reference.

Our design objective was to produce a cable discreet enough for easy installation, with all the performance benefits that shielding can bring.  C-screen is just 8mm in diameter and flexible enough to route around corners with ease. It’s finished with a white outer jacket which protects the shielding and makes it virtually invisible against white skirting boards.

C-screen features multi-stranded oxygen-free copper conductors, insulated with low-density polyethylene and arranged in a twisted-pair configuration to reduce interference. The cable is then enclosed in a PVC casing that reduces mechanical noise and spaces the conductors correctly, relative to the twin-foil shielding.
