  • Chord Hugo TT2

There is something mesmerising in the sound of a Chord DAC/headphone amps. The unleashing of the music in its raw tangible beauty into your living room. The space the music inhabits seems to expand the boundaries of a room like a Tardis. And the instruments and vocalists seem to come together forming this 3D image of the broader soundstage.

For those of us who spend far too much time listening to music, it's that feeling of being transported through time and space into where the music was performed. Like a trip in a Tardis, this is what a Chord Dac can deliver.

And they've got all the cool flashing lights and even a port hole to look through to see naked circuitry inside!

  • MEZE Empyrean Elite, New Reference Headphones

The brand new Headphones from Meze are an improvement on their already spectacular Empyrean Headphones. A new driver design creates a bigger soundstage and more detail.

The Meze Empyreans have been extraordinarily popular and from all accounts these lack nothing that the Empyreans have in terms of sound and general performance. Just improving on what was already a sensational base.

A couple of aesthetic differences and an overall lighter unit.

  • Naim Uniti Atom Headphone Edition, Trade-up Special

We already love the Naim Uniti Atom as a 2 chanel stereo amplifier come streamer so it's no surprise that a headphone version of that is going to be very popular and attract some rave reviews. An attactive all-in-one box capable of impressing serious Head-Fi enthusiasts.

This unit will happily do the heavy lifting on some of the harder to drive highend Headphones to make them come alive like never before. And there's no need to start a whole new HiFi rack to accomodate a headphone amp, source and cables. One box to sit on a desk, perhaps, and you're good to go.

  • Meze Empyrean, Black Copper

A ultra classy refined set of Headphones. It's hard to find anything bad to say about these. Except that there's now a new and improved better version with the Emprean Elite. But we were scratching our heads wondering what they could possibly do to make these any better.

The sound is detailed and precise but will let loose with kick and punch if you give them half a chance. The Soundstage is truly enormous and the quality of the finish is impeccable.

The people who make these are Romanians and the engineers that have developed their special Isodynamic Hybrid Array Driver are Polish. Two former eastern block countries who are now part of the EU and obviously have oodles of talent to produce some of the best Headphones in the world.

The Isodynamic driver is a variation of a Planar Magnetic driver done with a dual shaped voice coil array that makes them super light weight and super responsive. And you can definitely hear that responsiveness of the Empyreans over other Planar Magnetic designs.

The lightness in the driver makes them incredibly comfortable to wear for long periods of time as well.

  • Meze Liric Headphones

Relatively speaking, Meze Audio, is a new company in the world of HiFi and Headphones. Founded in 2011, they joined a plethora of small companies producing good, reasonably priced over ear headphones. Many of the other companies have faded into obscurity but Meze quickly made a mark by designing someting extraordinary, The Empyreans.

The Empyreans were a revelation. Not a cheap Headphone but they make no apologies for being uncompromising in every detail of the design. Pairing with a company called Rinaro Isodynamics who make exceptional planar magnetic drivers for the Headphones, the Empyreans had HiFi reviewers stunned with their musicality and precision.

Since causing waves with the Empyreans, Meze has gone from strength to strength sticking to this uncompromising design ethos that refuses to simply follow the pitfalls of Head Fi trends. Rather they simply make sure they make units that outperform their competition in sound quality with finishing details that they find beautiful. Hence the timeless quality of their products and devoted fans they have accumulated over the last couple of years. Carlton Audio Visual has definitely become one of these fans!

  • Meze Rai Penta

Antonio Meze, lead designer and founder of Meze, says "Rai Penta is the culmination of 3 years of researching the most ergonomic shape and most vivid sound for a Universal In Ear Monitor. We could have released it earlier, but again, like with with all our products, we wanted to make sure it is truly the best we can achieve"

Needless to say, these aren't your average In Ear Monitors. They are hewn for aluminium and presicely engineered so that the air flow in their small casing is optimally controlled for each of their 5 drivers. This means that your listening experience is more controlled and musical than others on the market devoid of distortion created when cheaper plastic molded chanels are delivering the sound to your ears.

There's also an outlet to the outside to stop build up of pressure within your inner ear making for a more comfortable listen.

The shape of the whole unit has been designed for comfort to make sure it fits snuggly and works anatomically as well as sonically.

They also come with a huge array of different sized and shaped ear bud tips so you can find the perfect fit for your ears.

  • Audeze LCD-1, An affordable pair of Audeze headphones

We've become very particular in what Headphones we keep in store. Carefully selecting brands and models that stack up well in the HiFi world and generally staying away from the more mass market noise cancelling bluetooth options out there that inevitably compromise in sound quality.

Audeze has been one of the brands that we loved and we've sold a lot of the pricier LCD-3s and LCD-4s to people who love to sit at home listening to headphones in their lounge room or while working away in their home office.

Unlike their bigger brothers, the LCD-1s are a lot less bulky, much more portable and less cumbersome on the head. But they retain Audeze's Planar Magnetic technology that produces the detailed, transparent yet warm and inviting sound of Audezes that we've come to love.

The finish and feel on these headphones is understated luxury at its finest. They don't look ostentatious but the soft leather and quality finish of the joins make them feel like they're a $1000 plus Headphone.

  • Sennheiser PXC 550 ii

Sennheiser's answer to Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones. These are great Travel Buddies or units that are perfect for Working from Home to keep out the noise from the rest of the household and keep your music to yourself.

Rich and detailed sound and all the features you'd expect with a modern fandangled set of headphones: Touch Controls on Earpads, Bluetooth 5.0 and Voice assistant button for connecting to Google Assistant, Siri or Alexa. My favourite feature is the automatic switch off and start up when the Earpads are unfolded or folded back up again.

  • Koss Pro4S Studio Monitor Headphones...that are great for audiophiles as well

Koss were the very first company to manufacture Headphones or Stereophones as they were then known for personal audio use. Prior to their SP/3 model release in 1958, Headphones were used purely for communication purposes. Think 1940s war time Telephone switch boards.

In any case, Koss has been manufacturing Headphones since 1958 in Milwaukee Wisconsin and is still owned my the Son and family of John C. Kloss who started the business. A real family tradition.

Whether you're a musician after a set of decent studio monitors or an audiophile wanting a pair of Headphones that'll give you that extra bit of detail and precision, these are the ones.

They look clunky but are light weight and therefore feel super comfortable on.

  • Koss Porta Pro Wireless

I've personally had Koss Porta Pro Headphones for a number of years now and I added a pair of the Koss Porta Pro wireless version to the stable after going through a couple of pairs of Earbuds that were incompatible with me...I'm still not sure whether that's because I get unusually sweaty ears or tiny ears or a combination of both but they would never stay in my ears.

These are super comfortable though and sound massively better than the Earbuds. The Bluetooth receiver does jiggle a little but that's an easy trade-off for me for not having to worry about an Earbud falling out of my ear onto the pavement.
