Monitor Audio Hyphn ... state of art loudspeaker
Every once in a while one of our brands puts their best foot forward and proffers a design exercise of the level of a McLaren F1 or similar from the car world. These particular speakers are from that same school of engineering innovation that produced the Avro Vulcan and the GMA T50 but are actually far more useful ... and affordable ...
This is the gauntlet Monitor Audio are throwing down to the rest of the industry. A radical rethink of how a loudspeaker can be made so as to be a truly livable high end product. The first time I played them with my all too familiar Johnny Cash "Hurt", I immediately recognised an extra layer of revealed detail in the upper registers. However the Hyphn can do this without being piercingly actinic like so many high end loudspeaker designs. Mr Cash simply was eloquently melancholic in a heart rending rendition of an all too familiar tune.
They are also comfortable in a real domestic environment without the listeners being forced into a super critical centrality to experience the whole performance. Many very high performance transducers are extremely critical of listening position and acoustic space, these are designed for a real living room, albeit probably rather a nice one.Stereonet on the Monitor Audio Hyphn

Sonus faber Il Cremonese Ex3me
Quintessential physical beauty in a loudspeaker ... not for the faint hearted. For most of us this would represent a large portion of our income that if we were sensible would be spent on property , or a new car, or maybe a kitchen renovation. Sadly none of those would make one as happy as the music generated by a system with a pair of Il Cremonese Ex3me loudspeakers.

Sonus Faber Amati G5 ... Italian floorstanding loudspeaker supremos
This fifth generation iteration of the Amati Homage loudspeaker is now on demonstration at Carlton Audio Visual. They are named after the 16th Italian luthier, Andrea Amati, who was the first in a long lineage of celebrated Cremonese violin makers including Antonio Stradivari.
Like the best violins of that era, the sound of an Amati speaker has always been rich, vibrant and brilliant yet can deliver details at an almost imperceptible whisper changing between the two effortlessly.
It is so hard for a speaker to recreate the sound of a Violin accurately. Vibrato and the lower harmonics in the sound can so easily be lost leaving a glassy sound to the treble and losing the soul of the music. As a professional string player, I still feel that Sonus Faber Reference and Homage series do this better than any other loudspeaker I've heard (I have heard many loudspeakers!)
One of my reference CDs is Richard Tognetti playing the Bach solo partitas on a 1743 Guarneri violin and yes that's another Cremonese Violin maker. On these speakers, suddenly you can tell he's playing one of the best instruments in the world.
It is possible that these are the most long term listenable of any high end loudspeaker. The vision of Sonus faber is to deliver the music but to avoid that analytical coldness that so many of the highly revealing ultra high end transducer brands are designed with in order to make a quick sale in a competitive demonstration situation. With the Homage series on the other hand it is possible to have a long term musical relationship with the loudspeaker where the romance dosn't fade ....

Fyne Vintage Ten … timeless dual concentric beauty
To see this in its sheer walnut solidity is to be inexorably struck by the beautiful hand crafted physicality of the thing. A remarkable exercise in style and design of high end audio technology.
Sonically this loudspeaker has some very different properties ... it has extreme midrange presence with detail and realism that presents the performance that is directly injected into ones forebrain. The bass is deep and deeper.
Playing Adele 25 she is fully projected into the room with an almost visible intensity and when the bass comes in it will make the earth move for you just a little bit.

Spendor Classic 200 Speakers
I fell in love with these as soon as I saw them at the Munich Hi Fi Snow and was unfortunately caught by the Australian distributor in a compromising position with them in the rather dark room ...
This is the largest loudspeaker Spendor have ever produced. Employing 2 of their famous 12" bass units as used in the SP100 in each enclosure allowing incredible effortlessness in the bass. If size isn't an issue I would be ordering a pair of these and spending the rest of your life enjoying music knowing you will not find an easier, bigger sounding loudspeaker anywhere.

PS Audio Aspen FR20
We think the FR20s are the Goldilocks in the Aspen range. We think they're actually a size that is more suited to Australian-sized living rooms.
We've had the FR30s in store now for a number of years and have been playing around putting them into different listening rooms. They are awesome but have worked best in our very biggest demo spaces. The FR20s are a little more manageable and forgiving for a tyical living room.
If you're trying to cover a big open plan, Colorado style living space - think huge open fire, massive wood logs for walls, elk heads for decoration and snowy meadows for a backdrop - the FR30s are perfect.
The same driver techonology with ultra low distortion, bass that will reset a pacemaker, treble that floats delightfully, are featured in the FR20s.
A scintillating speaker worthy of those who seek the best in their music.

Dynaudio Confidence 60, ex display ...
It is time to say goodbye to this beautiful pair of loudspeakers. We have one display pair in rosewood left ... musical truth ...
Seeing these for the first time was a bit like that occasion when I was at a party outside of my normal social strata of hippy and bikerdom and the six foot 2 inch Supermodel comes into the room. One is momentarily stunned.
Whereas a Sonus faber Aida evokes a sense of primal wonder at the wooden waveforms embedded in their design, the Dynaudio Confidence 60 is like that graceful alien shape that comes amongst us as a creature of grace and purity. Better than us, more evolved and refined than the merely squalid mortal transducer instruments that the multitude of humanity must settle for. They sound like that too ... I do not honestly believe that there is a loudspeaker that is more measured and true in its presentation. These are not a simple product a the end of along chain of development. The Confidence 60 is a loudspeaker that misses nothing and adds nothing. It is musical truth in its purest exponent and needs to be listened to if you want to know what those who come after us will be playing their music on ....

Sonus faber Maxima Amator ... beauty incarnate
Are these the most beautiful loudspeakers in the world? Quite possibly.
The Maxima Amator is a stupefying synergy of solid wood and marble impossibly crafted into an exquisite sculpture.
Both wildly beautiful and understated with its simple, clean lines, this handmade Italian two-way tower is a feast for all of the senses.
This was a project long considered by Sonus faber, a floorstanding two-way made from a solid wood enclosure only made possible through modern CNC technology–all affixed to a one-of-a-kind Italian marble bass.
Possessing a small footprint but a huge sound, the Amator Maxima transmits the warmth and hope of your favorite music.

Graham Audio LS5/5 Speakers
The LS5/5 is a large three way monitor designed in 1967.
A 12 inch drive unit handles the low frequencies up to 400Hz. At this point, an 8 inch midrange takes over before handing over to the 1 inch soft dome tweeter at 3.5kHz. Overall, the frequency response is flat to within ±2dB from 40Hz to 20kHz.

Krix MX-30 System
We have this set up as an Atmos reference system in one of our buildings and, though I say so myself, we have done some absolutely fabulous work in Melbourne and Victorian homes with this system.
Designed for larger dedicated home cinemas with an acoustically transparent screen, the MX-30 will deliver your favourite movie soundtracks with supreme definition and accuracy, right through the picture and into your seat. Larger bass drivers and compression high frequency drivers provide an extended frequency response at higher sound pressure levels.

Monitor Audio Platinum PL300 loudspeaker
These are the latest iteration of this big no compromise UK design. The outstanding characteristics of this speaker are the immense delicacy of the treble nature along with the massive attack offered by the exceptional bass drivers. The original Platinum 300 is still in use by many of our clients and is really hard to get a positive upgrade of. The third generation retains all those virtues of air and space with thunder but has refined and deepened the musical portrayal.
